Yes, don’t beat yourself up. Just get back on track.

I tend to eat out mostly because I don’t want to cook. In those cases I just try to make better decisions. Like I’ll get the blackened chicken strips at Popeyes vs the breaded. Although last night I happily had tempura shrimp and veggies.

Today is a new day though.

You aren't alone in this. I am sure most people succumb to old habits at some point. The goal is to not give into that stuff but every so often. You just will not be successful if you can't get that under control. I eat out once every week or so, but choose places that will allow me to have options at least (a salad or Protein and veg). You can find okay options at most places...

At KFC, for example, a grilled chicken breast, and 2 green bean sides contains 260 calories, 7g of fat, 8g of carbs, and 40g of protein. Not so bad unless you are watching your sodium (1230mg). Everything else Is loaded with carbs, salt, sugar or fat.

At Taco Bell, there is a power menu bowl with chicken that will pack in 500 calories, 20g of fat, 53g of carbs, and 28g of protein. It is 12 ounces, so if you eat half, you are clocking 250 calories, 10g of fat, 27g of carbs, and 14g of protein. Everything else is blah.

I used to love KFC and Taco Bell, but wouldn't be caught dead in either of their drive-thrus or dining rooms. There is just too much temptation there for me. I prefer sit down restaurants over fast food, although I have been known to devour a small Wendy's chili with cheese and onions (only once or twice over the last 4 months, I swear;)).

Learn to forgive yourself though, and move on when you mess up. Letting it linger is not going to help you. Formulate a plan if you are going out. Look at the menus before hand to see what on their menu is healthy, and have that. Remember, success means doing the right things 90% of the time. I doubt that having a taco or some fried chicken once every 10 days is going to explode your diet, especially if the rest of your eating is on point, but it is a slippery slope nonetheless.

Good luck.

How are Popeyes blackened chicken? I used to eat at Popeyes all of the time, but I avoid it like the plague now. I can't have their spicy tenders and red Beans and rice anymore, but I might consider trying their blackened tenders the next time the wife gets drive-thru there. They appear to be pretty healthy.

They’re actually pretty tasty. Not as spicy. But so filling. They usually don’t have them made so it takes like 10-15 min but I don’t mind cuz then they’re fresh!

I'm responding with words I've had to tell myself over and over.

None of us are perfect at this. The important thing is not to beat yourself down. Get back on the horse quickly. Don't let one bad day turn into weeks and months of bad choices.

I want to stress, use your first year of surgery restriction to your advantage. It is your best weight loss phase. Don't waste it! Your weight loss will slow down and get harder to lose as time passes.

When you find yourself tempted or actively eating off plan.... Try to remember this.

You have two choices. The pain of discipline or the pain of regret.

You say you have no restrictions ? 4 ounce of dense Protein like steak give you no restriction... Or do you mean food that isn't meant for your sleeve know as sliders and Carby food?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
