Yup!! Eek. I had a tough night last night, with the liquid diet. I was super hungry and could not stomach the idea of another Protein Shake or broth, so I had 2 scrambled eggs. I decided they were soft, high Protein, low calorie, and low carb so they should be ok? I felt SO much better after eating them, I suspect they will be a go-to for the next week.

How much weight has everyone lost in the first week on the liquid diet? I'm down 8 lbs. My hope is to lose another 4 lbs before surgery, which will mean I lost an even 20 lbs between my first appointment with my surgeon and my day of surgery.

I haven't had a pre-op diet, and only do for the day before. That's actually making me a bit nervous because I feel a bit less emotionally/physically prepared (if that makes sense). Sure, I could just do the liquid diet on my own with surgeon's instructions. But let's be serious. Christmas is coming. :o

Oh that's right, I forgot. The fact that some surgeons don't require the liquid diet really makes me suspicious of the whole thing. (Especially because I know that I used to have fatty liver but I lost weight earlier this year and my gastroenterologist said it was no longer fatty at my last testing.) Certainly in some ways this diet is prepping me for post-op eating but in a lot of ways it's just torturous (because I won't be so freaking HUNGRY post-op). I think the "liquids all day + lean meat and veggies for dinner" would make me far less insane right now but my surgeon is all liquid so I'm doing my best to stick with it. Sure does stink, though.

How did my fellow 12/28 sleevers do today? We host a Christmas brunch for my husband's family every year and there was no getting out of it. I am not telling them about the surgery so it was tricky. I made a tonne of food and didn't eat any of the appetizers or Desserts, but I did put together a little plate of food to nibble at while everyone ate, mostly fruit, some eggs, and a few bits of starch. It was just going to be too hard to explain away, otherwise. I've been good on the liquid diet overall so hopefully it won't matter much. Can't believe surgery is 3 days away... eep. Merry Christmas!

My surgeon does sometimes require a pre-op diet. I don't know how he decides. It might be BMI, or maybe when he poked around my abdomen. (Can they feel your liver when they do that?!) As much as I've been happy about no pre-op diet, I feel a bit less prepared than others might. We can compare notes after and see which one of us felt better equipped to manage post op intake. :D

I lost 13 pounds the first week of the pre-op diet. 4 days into my second week and so far I have dropped 1 more pound.

Hi,
I start my pre-op liquid diet on 12/14/17 and was wondering does anyone have good ideas for things to have other then Protein Shakes?
My dietitian said that she doesn't want me going over 1000 calories. Any suggestions help!

I bought a variety pack of soups from BariatricPal. They’re pretty tasty and filling.

Mine’s at nine. Good luck to us!

Good luck! My surgery is at 7am. Have to be there at 5:30. My mother was supposed to come from out of town today but there's still too much snow where she is, so I had to scramble to find a babysitter (who could come to our house at 5am tomorrow) but thankfully I found one.

I'm getting more scared and second-guessing myself all over the place. I've lost 20 lbs since I first met with my surgeon on 9/22 and I keep thinking maybe I should just be more disciplined and do this on my own but then I know the sleeve will make it easier to do.

Did anyone see the Vox series this week about bariatric surgery? Very interesting (and timely) to read:

The main story is about a teenager and her mom, who both got the sleeve:
https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/12/18/16707428/bariatric-surgery-teen-weight-loss-jewel

Then there were other pieces where they talked to a bunch of people who had the surgery a few years ago, to see how they've done with it:
https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/12/19/16742884/weight-loss-bariatric-surgery-pros-cons-stories

And a more general overview of the surgery:

Good luck everyone!

Will do! I'm crazy nervous, but just went to CVS and stocked up on all the "must-haves" (lip balm, lotion, baby wipes, good kleenex, breath spray, etc) so that's calming me somewhat. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
