Tall bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I noticed there was a thread for shorter bandsters, but I couldn't find one specifically for taller bandsters.

I'm 5'11" and right now at 282 I am a size 24. I wear a size 11 wide shoe.

I have some questions for people who have already started this journey...do you go down in shoe size too? I would really love that.

I would love to find out from people closer to goal - what size are you? Is it realistic for me to think I could be a size 12, 10, 8?

Thanks in advance! :ranger:

I'm *only* 5'8" -- that used to be tall!

But I do wear size 11 shoes. I lost 70 pounds four years ago on Medifast. I did find that I could wear some size 10 shoes but I need size 11 for the length, not the width and I've never had to wear the wider sizes.

Also, I got down to size 12 and even a few size 10s. I was 165 pounds.

I am 6ft tall and wear a 12/13W shoe... I weigh 273 and am between a 24 and a 22...I like my clothes a little loser as I've had three kids and my stomach has tons of extra skin.

Looking forward to reading your replies.

My sister is 200 and a size 16...at 6ft1inch. She normally hangs out around 180 and is between a 12 and a 14 at that time...

I'm also 5'8" which really isn't so tall these days. I have huge feet and have to wear men's shoes. I need to go down at least 2-3 sizes to get into regular women's shoes. That ain't going to happen unfortunately, my feet/ankles/wrists/hands have never been fat for some reason, though the rest of me is. However, I have heard of people dropping shoe sizes. Would be so cool.

Hi Margie

I am a fellow tree, I am 6'0". I started out size 30, 320 pounds, size 11 shoe...

NOW here is the good news, I am now anywhere from a shoe size 9 to a 10. Mostly a 9.5!! WOO HOOO!! SO yes, there is hope!

We have very similar starting stats. I am 5'11'' and started at 273 and wore a size 11 shoe. Was also a size 24 in clothing as well. I also have a goal weight of 165 too.

I have gone down 70 pounds putting me at 203 and in a size 16 now. I have also noticed a difference in shoe sizes as well. I had to buy a 10 in my last pair. It was such a great feeling. It is so hard to find a decent looking size 11 shoe. Tens just sound so much smaller.

I just recently posted a before and during picture on the "before and after thread" if you want to get an idea of the transformation this far. My goal is to get into a size 12 or even maybe a size 10. I have been down to 157 about 9 years ago and that was my size then...but that was also before I had twins and a singleton and all this skin...ughh.

Good luck on your journey. You will love the results!!!

I also had twins and a singleton...how old are yours? Mine are 3.5 (singleton) and the twins are 21 months old.

Twin skin is the WORST!!!

I have twins, too, and two singletons! ;) Mine are 26-year-old identical girls with a 28-year-old sister and 23-year-old brother. Since my twins were three days late and 8-1/2 and 7 pounds, you can imagine how huge I was! :)

Wow, yes, I'm sure you filled the doorway like I did! I didn't know I was having twins until after the first was born since "back in the day," my doctor wasn't doing routine ultrasounds. But it's a surprise whenever you find out, huh? :) Both my twins got married this past spring -- enjoy them while they're relatively inexpensive! :clap2:

Wow Rain. You have your hands full. Mine are 5 year old girls and I have a 20 month old boy also. I thought my girls were big at 6.8 and 7.0 pounds, but you put mine to shame. Mine were also taken at 2 weeks early. I was never on bedrest, although at times I wish I could have been. I felt like a house. And I have a roadmap on my stomach to show for it. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. Twins are so much fun. It only gets better and better...at least for now!!!

WOW Rain, but on the plus they were heathy for twins I bet. My last girl was 4 weeks early and 9.13 lbs!! 4 weeks! lol...

Well, unfortunately, they weren't healthy to begin with...spent a few days in the SCU...My Meg wasn't breathing and was intubated...very scary...especially because I still had to deliver the other baby. But..for a lot of twins, they were perfectly healthy... Thankfully!

We are super busy...you'd think I'd be able to drop weight like a man...but it seems to have no effect on my metabolism... bummer!

As for the "road map"...My nieces and nephews nicknamed my stomach the brain. It totally looked like a brain...now it looks like a deflated brain. So very sad. Can you say Tummy Tuck?

Booboo kitty...that's a big baby...my niece was 11.5lbs....but she was 2 weeks post due...I think it's because we are tall and our babies have so much room to grow... what do you think???

I like this thread... let's talk about where to shop for longer clothing.

I like Long Elegant Legs which is a company out of NJ..but their pants have HUGE inseams...I only need about a 34-35" inseam...they have 36-40...too long. But their shirts are longer in the torso and have longer sleeves...

Lane Giant has great jeans now...different sizing. But, I hope to not need them much longer!!! :clap2:

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far....

Booboo - you look fantastic, M1hocker - you look great as well! I saw your pictures on the before and after thread. I can only hope to look as good as you guys!

Anyway - the one thing I have a hard time with is pants.....Either the waist is too big so it will fit my hips, or the waist is ok but it's snug in the hip/gut area.

I can find decent work clothes at Lord & Taylor - generally try to go to the sale rack cuz there stuff is on the higher end. Lane Bryant - I don't know what happened but I used to be able to find work stuff in there. I think they got bought by a hoochie mama outfit because all of a sudden I really started to hate their stuff. One year it was all brown and orange and yellow and they were showing half shirts/belly shirts/low cut stuff...which is fine if your a teenager or in your early twenties. I realize that some women have no problem showing off their bodies and feel great at bigger sizes, but I never was one of them!

I can find nice things at the low end (no offense! I mean lower price) stores like Walmart or Target and if I really want to do some digging at TJMaxx or Marshalls.

My dream used to be to be able to walk into Filenes and just go to the regular woman's department and get whatever I wanted. Well that dream is dead because the May Dept stores are now owned by Macy's. I don't know about you guys but I HATE how Macy's is set up. We're getting a Nordstroms soon so maybe that will have to replace my dream.

I am pretty sure I need the 11 shoes because of the WIDTH and I am PRAYING that I can get down to a size 10 - because even a 10 is hard to find a cute shoe in and an 11 is just downright difficult.

Well, that's it for now! I am 9 days away from being banded....I am hoping to lose 70 pounds by next July 4th :biggrin1: which would put me in the 210-212 range...and maybe a size 16. I haven't been a size 16 since HIGH SCHOOL and when I was in HS I thought I was GINORMOUS :faint:If only I knew then what I knew now!

P.S. I have GOT TO STOP watching the foodnetwork! I'm addicted to cooking shows. ;):)

OMG I love/hate the food Network! MY gym has it on all day right where I like to bike, I want to kill them. Do you know Adrian that got kicked off the FN show? I know him and he is fixing my car right now...lol...I ask him for cooking tips all the time at the body shop, I think I drive him nuts!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
