I was banded in august 07 and have just had my first fill 2 weeks ago, 6 mls (CC's), I was very restricted for the first week and now feel like I can almost eat anthing, the Dr said it would settle and relax but it seems a little too relaxed. Has anyone else felt this? Im having another fill in 2 weeks.

Also my weightloss was very rapid whilst on fluits but has stopped now on normal foods (even though I eat very little), will weightloss be up and down till my fill is correct?

If anyone can help that would be great?

Hi Lauren,

I'm not banded yet but from evreything I have read and been told this is quite normal. Some people get restriction on their first fill, some need more. It is also common to have restriction for the first week and then for it to ease. Your weight loss should begin again once you get a decent restriction, and though you are eating very little now, it is still probably more calories than when you were on fluids.

Hope this helps.

Danna:)

A big hello from Brisbane!!

Your doctor is right, your fill will have settled, allowing you to eat more than you could when you were first filled. You will find that your next fill (depending on how much more your doc adds) will make a big difference in your restriction.

Your weight loss will be a bit up and down at first. The weight we lose on fluids is a one time deal. We typically never lose weight that fast again.

And sometimes, when people go from fluids to solids, there is even a slight weight gain. The trick is to not freak out, and keep eating right and exercising.

Congrats!

Sam.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
