Trouble losing pre-op weight with nutritionist

Recommended Posts

Hello! I have been extremely excited about this journey toward weight loss that I've failed to achieve on my own.....however, I have gained 4 pounds during the course of my nutricianist appointments that she advises that I see her for another month before my final appointment with the surgeon and submission to the insurance company (I've already completed the required 3 month visits). Has anyone experienced this? Could this really delay my chances?

It's shouldn't they go by your weigh in after the 2 week liquid diet. I actually start my 2 week tomorrow and I'm scheduled for surgery Dec.13 I'm excited yet nervous I'm here if you ever need to talk good luck

All insurance companies are different. Mine wanted 6 months consecutive with a 10% weight loss before they would approve. I've heard of others accepting some net loss, but no gain. I think gain is going to be a problem for the insurance company. You might want to follow the nutritionists advice and try one more month before submitting. It's important to remember that the surgery by itself will not cause you to lose weight and keep it off....your lifestyle changes, your eating habit changes are the real work and get the real results. The surgery is one tool in the tool box, but not the most important one.

Have you addressed why you gained 4 lbs ? I'm four months post. We have to stick to the rules after. It's not easier to be honest. More risks with post op risk of leak etc. This is life changing. This opportunity. I'd discuss why your risking it not working out. What are you eating ? I didn't even have to lose weight for mine but I chose to. Maintaining is one thing. But gaining .. therapy is important. Or talking honestly here. Good luck

You have not completed the three month requirement to LOSE WEIGHT. You gained. The idea is to lose weight in those 3 months. There for. You need to commit to longer to achieve the requirements. Doesn't seem complicated.

You’re absolutely right. Thank you!

And that’s what I need to keep in mind..a tool. It begins with me. Thank you!

Best wishes on your journey, shay. Using a fitbit and uping my exercise by walking helped me with my diet more than I can say. Best thing to do is to call your insurance and see what their specific policies are. Wishing you a safe productive outcome:)

I start liquid fast of Dec 4. I see my surgeon tomorrow for my pre-op but I'm up 5 pounds. Should I be worried he will reschedule my surgery. I know I will be at my goal after liquid fast. My surgery is Dec 18. Please let me know.

Hi and thank you for sharing. Your doctor may not reschedule you but strongly advise that you are strict with the liquid diet before surgery. Stay positive because the 18th buys you more time to make it work. I know we both can knock these last few pounds off. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
