Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am a newbie and I am currently researching the band option to see if it's the right onw for me....

I am currently living in Canada and wanted to know if anyone else is/ I noticed two people from canada and one form Ottawa (me 2!! :-)) and I was simply wondering where you got the surgery done and how much it cost and all that good stuff ....

Thanks so much.

I am in desperate need of help here EH! ha ha ha

Hi,

I live just outside of Montreal, and had my Lapband placed in Drummondville Qc, about 100kms away.

As the RAMQ covers the cost of the surgery, it only cost me $5,200 for the band itself. I'm currently preparing to sue my insurer, the Public Service Health Care Plan, administered by Sun Life for that amount.

Increasingly, insurance companies in Quebec are accepting to pay for the band if the surgeon certifies that the band is "medically necessary".

I am currently looking into getting Lap Band in Winnipeg. Did you get anywhere with Public Service Health Care Plan re-imbursing you?

Not so far, but it's my own damn fault. All I have to do is file my claim in small claims court, but I've been procrastinating.

I guess part of it is that the Lapband has been so effective that I don't really mind the 2 grand or so it cost me after tax credits. Of course that doesn't change the fact that the PSHCP bites. But then, they're not alone in that regard. If you're a member, and you decide to pursue this in the courts, I'll help you out any way I can. Good luck, and don't let the absence of support from your insurer stand in your way.

Thanks for the info, I will definately get back to you when I submit my receipts to them which should be at the end of June.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
