What's the best option?

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago, my doctor referred me to see a bariatric surgeon. I had never considered weight loss surgery, but I took a chance and did my initial consultation already. The doctor said I would be looking at getting surgery in March. However, I am currently in the process of building a home. The closing date for my house will not be until late May. I have yet to experience the stress everyone mentions, but I heard that it is sure to come. For those who have had surgery, would you recommend I put off surgery until after the house is completed?

I would say there can always be a reason to delay surgery. I want to be alive to enjoy these things. Being overweight increases your risk of missing out on those things you mentioned .. if your not here anymore. No one can tell you what to do. Everyone has different priorities. Opinions etc. But myself. I'd have the surgery and just get it over with .. just me.

Of course! I was just wondering if others who have done it believe the level of stress during that project would be a healthy decision!

It all depends on what you feel you can handle. I have had a sleeve .. at University. Working. Single mom of two. Was worth the stress for me.

I actually built a house while preparing for the surgery and closed just two weeks prior to surgery date.
Honestly, I didn't feel like the two impacted each other at all. A new home and a new body all in one year!!

I would do it in March as well, and get it over with. You will be 8 weeks out at least before you move, and that's perfect! I had no stress at 8 days out much less 8 weeks out. You will be fine.

Good luck!

I say go for it. There is always going to be stressors in life and putting it off now may lead to more issues later. I was just starting a new job when I had my surgery and my kids were only 1 and 3 so talk about stress but I dealt with it as it came and have no regrets.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
