Even with the classes and seeing videos doesn’t truly prepare you for everything! Everyone’s experience is different from person to person. My experience wasn’t flawless... surgery went well but I was very nauseous afterwards and the next day as well! Gas build up in center of the stomach area causes slot of discomfort! You’ll have a stretch band around your waist. Adjust it to not be so tight and this will help!!! Sit up as long as you can tolerate it. Also ask for cough drops! I could hardly talk for the first two days after surgery! Once you are able to walk around do so as often as possible! This will break up the gas in the stomach and give you a lot of relief from the pressure and pain from the drain tube area! Drink Luke warm Water but sip small amounts! Ice chips tend to cause hiccups that will cause more discomfort!
After you get the IV removed and the drain tube removed ask for a sponge bath! This will help you a lot! After bath take a walk at your own pace! Thank those who’ve helped you these past few days! Remember to see if your insurance will cover your Vitamin requirements! If not contact the social worker and they can give you a free 60 day supply while you try to get things together!

After you’ve started your 2oz meal and Protein Shake routine stick with it even after you get home! The shots in the stomach will get easier on the second day! If they offer a pneumonia shot take it but remember not to get it in your dominant shoulder because it will be sore for 2-3days afterwards!

Once you’re home...
Get out your journal and your measuring cups for your upcoming meals! Prep out two days worth as well as your Protein drinks!
Your pills are easier to digest if they are crushed! Mix them in with apple sauce or yogurt! If not then you will be stuck taking one pill every 15 minutes!

Don’t worry about jumping on the scales just yet! We’ve came a long way so it’s best to start new fresh and healthy habits from day zero of surgery!

In your journal entries mark down everything you’ve consumed and how long it took! Don’t get distracted. Take small bites & don’t rush it! Wait 30 minutes after you’ve ate before you start sipping anything!

You’ll be most comfortable in a recliner for first week or two! Sit at an angle which ever side had the drain hole on. Gently and carefully sit back all the way and don’t be afraid to ask for assistance!

Don’t forget to call your surgeon to schedule your follow up visit!

Some dr.’s may call you when you’re home to check up on you! This isn’t true in my situation! Reach out for support from friends and family members who may have had this procedure done prior for any follow up questions! If you are experiencing an emergency situation don’t blow it off call 9-1-1 immediately! Then contact your surgeon and dietitian once you get to the hospital!

If you haven’t already purchase a blender that can blend your vegetables and fruits into a purray blend. You’ll need this by week 3 post opt

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
