I had surgery Tuesday (10/17)

It has been a long road. Started this journey in 2015, but I needed life changes to do so. I needed to move, so I would be around family that was more supportive and who were willing to help me out. I had been considering the surgery since 2014. My neck surgeon told me there was no way for me to lose it fast enough on my own, and requested I think of gastric surgery. In 2015, my weight was out if control and when I hit 350 lbs. I had enough. I started slowly eating somewhat healthier, getting more active, and cutting down portions. I moved in April 2016. New city, new area, new changes. It took until August 2016 to get my insurance straightened out. I went to the seminar about it, and I decided on the sleeve. November 2016 I had my initial consultation. Went through nutrition classes mandated by my insurance company. Problems with insurance and other things, including needing a sleep study to see if I still had sleep apnea. When I started nutrition classes, I had lost 50 lbs. my insurance required I lose 5 lbs before surgery, I lost 25. I knew I needed to change my life, and I knew I had to change my eating habits. I was down 90 lbs by surgery on 10/17.

Here I am, my 4th day out! Still on Clear Liquids because of nausea. I thought I would never make it through the liquid 10 day prior to surgery diet. But, I did it. I bought a sample pack of matrix shakes, had 1 pk for every flavor. I liked the perfect chocolate and Peanut Butter cookie my favorite. Together, is amazing! I used them before bed, as I was a night time snacker! Stocked up on things I really liked! (Progresso Soups were a great go to!)

Tomorrow I am starting full liquids. I am excited and nervous about it.

This has been a life changer! I am very fortunate to have a really great and helpful support system, including 2 that have had gastric surgery! My family and friends are helpful and supportive! Below, 350 (in purple, front) and before surgery at 260!

Awesome job! I just had surgery on the 11th so we are in the same boat! On full liquid diet and I hate it :( But I'm going to try your chocolate and Peanut Butter idea! I've been sticking with broth, Jello, Water, and Protein Shakes. Maybe we can keep each other motivated! Feel free to message me!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
