Question regarding physiological appt?

Recommended Posts

I have my appt on Tuesday and just nervous. What this about? What is it for? How long does it take? What can I do to prepare for it? How long till they decide on a surgery date?

Hi Nora, do you mean psychological? If so, my understanding is that you have to do an extensive questionnaire then interview. But mine isnt until next week, so I dont know first-hand. Hopefully others will weigh in.

The Psychology Interview asks questions about your medical history, medications and mental wellness questions. Based on my experience, this was the easiest part of the process. The doctor wants to make sure that you are getting the surgery for the right reasons.

This is the easy part, just relax and let it flow! As long as you are doing this for the right reasons you will be fine. My appointment took about 45 minutes from the point that I walked in the door. I did not have to do any extensive paperwork whatsoever and the process was pretty easy and painless!

I just had my psych evaluation and I had to answer a 250 questionnaire and then I spoke with the doctor for 30 mins. I was super nervous but it was really easy.

I had an 100 question questionnaire. and a sit down talk for about 1 hour.

I had the interview with the doctor. She was quite awkward and weird, but I made it through. I completed the online questionnaire, too, and the results showed that I have a tendency to put others first. I had to complete two visits with a therapist to make sure I would take care of myself after surgery. The therapist had full confidence in me after the first few minutes of talking with me. Yes, I'm a mom and my children are the most important thing in my life, so naturally it would appear as though I put them first. What loving parent wouldn't? I also know that I have to take care of myself before I can take care of them. I'm doing that already, but the questionnaire didn't agree. LOL

It's just to check that you have:

(a) a balanced understanding of ramifications of WLS

(b) a strong propensity to commit fully

(c) the 'right' attitude or range of attitudes

(d) readiness in the full sense

(e) enough of a support network in your life

HI, 1st off, don't worry about this! In my area there was a "group" meeting of about 6 of us first. In this mtg a therapist talked about the importance of putting ourselves 1st and doing the surgery for the right reasons. Then he went over group therapy and why it was an important part of our success or failure and gave us dates to come. Also advised us that a spouse or family member could come, as it was important to have home support. Then a week later we had our 1 on 1 with a psychologist. This appointment lasted about 45 minutes. She basically wanted to know how long I was thinking or preparing for the surgery before I met with the Dr, why I was having the surgery and what I wanted to accomplish with the surgery. (more then just the weight loss basically) . 2 very easy appointments

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
