Hello! I am new to this forum and I am starting the process to get the gastric sleeve procedure. I am 31 years old and 5ft 2in, 250lbs. I have done the online seminar for the place i plan to go through and i am getting my consult scheduled.

I am really excited about doing this. How long from consult to surgery does it take for most?

Welcome. It can vary greatly from person to person depending on doctors and insurance company requirements. For me personally it has been just over 3 months and I am scheduled for surgery next Wednesday the 11th.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Good luck on your surgery! I already talked to my insurance and luckily I have great insurance. They basically said pick any on their approved list and they will approve it. That it is usually quick through them.

I went through rather quickly but I had been debating it for 5 years so my medical dr get ongoing records for me so when I did decide to go through with it I would have everything charted. Was also lucky because of our insurance BCBS....I went to Seminar May 17th and had surgery Sept 26.

About SEVEN WEEKS for me.

About NINE to TEN WEEKS if I count the family doctor referral and the compulsory information seminar.

But this is Australia!

It's Saturday 7th OCT 3:35 pm here now and I will be having my gastric sleeve on the morning of Thursday OCT 12th.

It took me six months due to my insurance regulations. Had a to go to a nutritionist six times, a psyche evaluation, tested my lung capacity, endoscopy and as a person with heart disease a thallium stress test. I'm a little over a month post op and down 25lbs.

Welcome!!!! I have a six month supervised diet and a bunch of testing before I can get a surgery date. I've finished all testing but have 3 more months of weigh ins. Seems to be passing very slowly for me lol.

what insurance do you use, if you don't mind me asking. I've been shopping around. just found out today that my insurance finally covers it. I've been waiting for 3 years.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
