Hi I'm one of Dr. Macik's patients. I got released 9/29.My Surgery date was 9/27. Been in alot of discomfort from the surgery an trying to force the fluids in but it's rough. The gas has finally subsided which is making me feel somewhat better. I have a very low low threshold for pain like 0..lol so for me it's been a struggle to get through this first week. Drinking the 32oz of skim milk has been a challenge because I am not a milk drinker at all. I keep experiencing these spasms in my stomach that is very painful so I am going to calling in to see if this is normal. The diet is pretty much easy for me especially since my intake is low because my appetite is gone but I look forward to the puree stage.

Yeah, I kinda blew past the milk stage. That part was hard cuz I couldn't hold any of it down. It will get better though. I have 6 days to puree. I can't wait! [emoji2]

I look forward to seeing any kind of food other than broth..lol. Now did you ever experience the spasms in your belly? If so what did you do?

Yes, I took gas X until I heard there was a recall. And, then after that, I just took the pain. it wasn’t that bad for me though. Walking help losing me up because you want to just let it “pass”

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
