Flatulent and fretful

Recommended Posts

I think of it as a grandpa odor. My occurrences of gas aren't too frequent, but everyone once in a while my stomach feels like churning boulders looking for an escape.

For me the gas in the day was really painful. Then by night when I’d lay down and my body relaxed they’d all start letting loose. Most satisfying feeling ever.

Haha! Yes. It does feel good when it releases!

I've been doing pre op diet of shakes and my gas is already killing the family. It can't possibly get worse smelling than it is. I guess I'm just prepping them. Maybe I'll get my 6 year old to sleep in her own bed.

LOL! Way to find a silver lining! I didn't have a problem when I was eating one shake a day before surgery....things have calmed down considerably since the original post...although I still have quite a bit of gas and it's still pretty bad but either it is less awful or I've become used to the new smell...guess You'd have to ask my wife! I'm sure it will change again as I reintroduce food to my system but whether it will get better or worse remains to be seen!

I'm 3 months out, and I fart HORRIFICALLY at the end of the day! Worst gas smell ever. But I'm living with it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
