Heart rate higher than pre op

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have experience with an increased heart rate post op?

I'm almost 5 weeks and it's not unusual for my heart rate to jump up to 110 bpm, as measured by my BP machine or new fit bit.

I normally don't notice it till it gets into the 105+ range, but overall it's been running in the upper 80s to 100s. Around 105 I feel it racing and start to feel weird, but it's not like I'm doing anything to cause it to increase. I don't recall this happening before surgery.

I've Google and see that can happen after eating, or it could be related to BP. I don't think it's dehydration as I've been getting my fluids in since about week 1. At what point would you worry?

On a side note, my BP monitor has shown the irregular heart beat indicator off and on since surgery. Seemed to not happen as much after 2nd week, but happened once last week.

I am still on my BP meds, though I cut them in half. BP has been all over the place, ranging from 80/60 to 129/86 (yesterday) but generally in the 105/70 range. I started cholesterol meds back a few days ago and just switched from protonix to omeprazole.

I will ask my Pcp at my follow up next week, but I wanted to ask about others experiences.

Thanks!

Yes, I did. I was sleeved two-and-a-half years ago.

I had issues with post-op tachycardia (a.k.a. rapid heart rate) that started a day after being sleeved. I followed up with a cardiologist 10 days after surgery and he was not concerned.

He said the rapid pulse was my heart's response to the stress of recent surgery. He prescribed a beta blocker medication to slow my heart rate and asked me to follow up in six weeks.

My heart rate eventually returned to normal and I no longer need the prescribed medication. Sometimes our bodies respond to surgery in wonky, odd ways.

Thanks. My BP medication is a beta blocker. I noticed when I stopped it for a week my HR went down, but now that I started it back, it's back up.

I was doing reading last night and it sounds like this can also happen with a Keto type diet. I don't think my carbs are low enough to be in ketosis, but maybe it's somehow related. HR definitely jumps after eating.

Wonky is right! Thanks!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
