Question About The Ap Band

Recommended Posts

My concern wasn't with the doctor. The hospital that I had my surgery at was using all of the bands they had before using the ap band. If there was newer technology then I wanted it. Not to say that the other bands were not ok. If my doc had reccomended another band then I would have been ok with that. I do trust my doctor, but being a nurse myself, I know that it is our job as patients to advocate for ourselves. My health, my surgery, my band are all areas that I want to be involved in decision making processes. I do trust my doctor. I am very glad that I chose her, but I think the days of "The doctor is always right, so don't ask questions" is over. I do see what you are saying, and yes, I agree that we should not "obsess" over what type of band, but I do think we should be advocates for ourselves in understanding the different types of bands, and being involved in the decision making process of our healthcare.

That is the great thing about this website, we get to see many different peoples view on different topics. None wrong, just different. That is what make us beautiful, unique people.

My wife and I both have the AP band. Not sure if 10 or 14cc. We have all ready had a fill. She has 2cc and I have 1 cc. I love the band its great. Waiting for the 2nd fill.

The doctor did tell us that he was not sure until he did the surgery which band he would use on us. He said it would depend on size of body etc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
