First 5K walk completed

Recommended Posts

My wife and I completed our first official 5K walk on Sunday. We completed it in 56 minutes 38 seconds. I could have run it but my wife thinks she cant run so I walked it with her. It was fun and I am sure that we will do it again in the future.

That's awesome!!! Congratulations!

I'm thinking of working toward one of those. There are a lot of fundraising 5k's scheduled over the next few months that are catching my eye. I noticed that you said you felt you could run it. Would you mind sharing any tips for those of us who are considering starting to run? I've been more a walking fan but running has a certain draw to it.

Try C25K, its a free downloadable app or you can find a C25K schedule online. I did this and it really helped me. I went from walking a 22 minute mile to running a 15 minute mile in less than 3 months. My endurance has increased and I can now run for about an hour straight without stopping. It has been integral in my overall health.

Congrats! I remember my first one and now I'm addicted to T-shirts and medals...lol

Congratulations! I love 5Ks. The atmosphere is always fun and they are usually for a good cause. I started with the couch to 5K app and then progressed. I ran 4 half marathons in 4 months (before I got pregnant). I never thought I would like running, but I love it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
