My sleeve is too big

Recommended Posts

Does your plan say you can have 6 ounces at a time?

My plan says 6 oz for meals and 2 or 3 for Snacks. I measure with a scale and usually don't finish it all. I am on soft foods and mostly eat tuna, cottage cheese, rinsed canned fruit, egg and banana. Usually eat around 900 calories but today only about 380 in just Protein Shakes as my stomach is unhappy. I lose about a pound a day.

I see my surgeon tomorrow, I am always hungry. My stomach actually growls. It was my understanding that the surgery would remove the ghrelin and I wouldn't feel as hungry.

Talk to him about an acid reducer like a proton pump inhibitor. For many of us acid mimics hunger in the early days! Even if you don't feel "heartburn" you may get a gnawing empty sensation that is easily mistaken for hunger.

I've taken a PPI since the day after surgery and it does nothing to help me feel less hungry or whatever but my surgery induced reflux went away after 2 weeks or so. My surgeon requires it for 90 days.

I'm sorry to hear that. My doctor had to double my initial dose. Hopefully your hunger pains diminish.

I think when you get on solid foods and are able to eat dense Proteins you will find a different situation is at hand. I still have certain foods I can eat a lot of (soups, chili, yogurt) vs. when I eat dense Protein and veggies. Also even if you find you can eat more than you should of something you have to work on the willpower to stop when you know you should.

My NUT also had a good trick for me, when you feel hungry drink Water and wait a few minutes. Often times it's head hunger.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
