Ok, how bad did this REALLY hurt??!

Recommended Posts

Physically it was a lot easier than I imagined! The first couple of days were awful and the first 2 weeks I had to take things slow and I slept a lot. I shuffled around the house while crouched over so alleviate the pain in my stomach/incisions but it's mostly a dull pain. It feels like doing 300 sit-ups and everything aches. Don't be afraid to take your painkillers and rest your body! The mental struggle was the hardest for me. I had some some "buyers remorse" but what helped me was the realization that I couldn't get my stomach back even if I wanted to. Take good mental and physical care of yourself and you'll do great! :)

I have a high pain tolerance. It did not hurt really. Felt like I did 1000 crunches (I used to do 1000 in HS).

The morphine caused the most pain. Every shot made my intestines clinch. Once I refused that. It was easy. I stopped pain meds with 36 hours of surgery.

Never had a c- section, had a natural birth. Child birth did not really hurt either, so yeah I have a high pain tolerence.

Oh. Ok. I did it. Wow that's awesome. When you say pushed the button what button? Do they give you a pain pump?

Yes, I had a pain pump in the hospital. I'm not sure if they left it there the entire time I was in or took it away at some point--and, to be fair, I took some of the pain meds when I got home just to make sure I could sleep. Then after a day or two, I was like, why am I taking these? So I stopped.

I was on some pretty strong narcotics for three weeks. And I generally can withstand a good deal of pain. I had the vertical gastric sleeve, gallbladder removal full, and hiatal hernia repair. Additionally, every single incision for laparoscopic surgery is essentially a stab and I had seven of those.

I woke up in the worst pain I've ever felt. I was begging for pain killers as soon as I opened my eyes. I then spent the next 24 hours knocked out on pain killers. 48 hours later I had zero pain and have had none since..was a weird experience

I woke up in recovery and asked what type of pain medicine I was on. The nurse said none, yet. I was shocked. During the initial pain assessment by the nurse, I put my pain level at a 2, and I'm not sure it was even that high. I had a pain pump, but didn't use it, except when they gave me meds in my IV. For me, that was the worst part. The IV pepcid and antibiotics burned and was awful. I was getting myself in and out of bed, taking my air things on and off by myself and walking. I walked over 100 laps, because that's what everyone said to do. They even let me walk myself out of the hospital. The worst pain was the gas. It hit me at about the 30 hour mark and I would rate it about a 9 on the pain scale.

For me, there was surprisingly little pain. I was expecting a lot, but as many of the ladies have stated, my C-section was worse! I've got severe osteoarthritis in both of my knees and for some odd reason (probably the meds used during surgery), my knees didn't hurt much at all. I didn't start taking my pain meds until maybe a week after surgery. I also wasn't walking around that much (you know, lack of energy and all that). My cousin went to TJ to have her sleeve done and she was in a LOT of pain, but she was having a lap band revision and had had previous abdominal surgeries. Pain is relative though; don't let the fear of that stop you!

It does!! I had a C-section and omg I thought I was going to seriously die. I was on hands and knees trying to get to the bathroom even for weeks!!!! I seriously couldn't imagine how painful it would be!!! But good to know after a week you felt that much better!

My C- Section was far worse than this in my opinion. The worst part of this surgery for me was the drain site, which was removed after 24 hours and the gas. Getting up and down and getting comfortable in bed were issues for about a month total but the actual pain began to subside by a week post op and I was back to work at 2 weeks post op with no issues.

I did not have much pain and switched to Tylenol on the 2nd day. Like others, getting in and out of bed hurt some but it was just like what you feel the day after doing a tough abdominal workout, so not too bad.

My sleeve was 8/15 and I felt a little nauseous from the anesthesia... once I got to my room and slept a little I felt 100% better

i was walking wishing 5 hrs and able to take small sips of broth. Only broth and Water stayed down. LOL

Home on day 3... been doing ok since. Due to pain in my back and knees I don't get much exercise in but as I keep losing that is getting better. Walked 1 mile the other day. A first!!!

Honestly the nausea was worse then the pain the first day. My incisions never really bothered me at all. I had some gas pain that worked its way out the first 3 days. I was off pain meds by day 3 except for Tylenol at bedtime. I went to Sea World and was walking on the beach in San Diego on day 4 and 5 post op. I just walked slow and sat down when I needed to.

I feel like this was a relatively easy recovery.

I had virtually no pain. Slight discomfort but never took pain meds. The hardest part for me was changing my relationship with food.

I had hardly any pain. I stopped taking pain meds the 2nd day in the hospital and haven't even taken a Tylenol since. The most painful thing is about 3-4 days of gas pain.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
