Sliming with VSG?

Recommended Posts

I had many problems with the lapband, but the most embarrassing one was "sliming." (Where I'd randomly belch up an enormous amount of slime.). Does this happen with the sleeve as well?

I just had my band revised and sleeve surgery completed 8/8, I certainly hope that doesn't happen. So far, so good.

So, no regrets then? My date is 9/12 and I'm already questioning the decision! I had my lapband removed a few years ago, and have been a yo-yo weight wise, so I know I need help. I'm just nervous after not being successful with my first WLS.

No regrets what so ever. I lost 50% during pre-op of what I lost in total with the band. My band just never worked for me and I also did the yo-yo again and again until I decided it was time for me to take back my life.

As your lap band is already removed, any scar tissue should have been remedied. It took my surgeon a little extra time to remove my scar tissue from the band which was extensive.

I wish you all the best and am positive, you will be successful with whatever decision you make!

So glad to have stumbled on this post...I have a fe questions. I am getting my band removed next week on the 16th. I have a few questions on converting to the sleeve. With the band if I didn;t basically chew my food into purée it felt stuck, and I would get a ton of flem and either had to throw it up or just wait for it to pass. I think that is why I never stopped drinking while eating. Food always felt stuck....does the sleeve feel the same or will I be able to tell that my tiny tummy is full? I just never got the hang of the band.

I can only tell you how I feel, never having had the band. But I was sleeved about 7 weeks ago now. You definitely know when you are full. Especially if you take your time to eat. I have had only one incident when I ate too much and that was very uncomfortable, I felt that I needed to throw up but couldn't and a little foamy like stuff came up which I had to spit out. I couldn't eat anything else for the rest of the day. I didn't feel like food was stuck, but more like if i kept eating it would fill up my esophagus as my stomach was out of space. Not very pleasant at all.

I don't feel like I can't eat anything, I just need to eat small amounts.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
