This only happens to me when I take too big of bites. Do you think that's the issue, or something else?

I went to check, and it looks like you are a couple months out. I'm sure you have figured out how not to take too big of bites by now ;)

Definitely being this up with your surgeon because strictures can get started around the 6-8 week mark. (The scar tissue is forming and pulls tight).

Yes. You have to take small bites and chew chew chew. I still struggle with this.

Yeah, if tiny bites are getting stuck, definite warning sign.

I did forget to mention.. the food should be soft and moist. Hard, dry meat will do this too. (This is for the general population reading this, not necessarily the op).

I would mention it to your surgeon. If it was something that happened randomly then I wouldn't be so worried but if it's a everyday occurrence, bring it up for sure.

My surgeon did tell me if I need to take a sip here and there while eating it's fine but don't make a habit out of it.

I'd discuss with your surgeon. Drinking and eating will sabotage your efforts so I'd recommend working with your surgeons team to figure it out. Drinking while eating pushes the food through the stomach thus defeating the purpose of the procedure. That's why it's so important to not drink and eat. A few sips during your meal for lubrication? No problem! (I used to think that wasn't allowed and was usre I could not adjust to that.) Drinking Water in tandem with eating? Big problem

Thanks for the advice. I wondered if I had to swallow dry food. [emoji16] ouchies

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
