Two week liquid diet tomorrow and nervous a little

Recommended Posts

All the time of doing everything on the check list I haven't really been nervous. But for some reason after my pre op appointments on the 8/8 I got a little nervous. I'm starting my liquid diet tomorrow . I'm still a little nervous , but not to the point of not having my surgery. I've worked to hard to get to this point. I keep reminding myself why I'm having the surgery. I was wondering has this happen to anyone else?

Girl. I am shaking like a leaf and I don't know why!! I think partially it's excitement!! And partially I am very nervous. My liquid diet starts and pre-op appointments are all 8/16. I know that's still 5 days away. I think it is probably normal and healthy for us to be nervous somewhat. You're gonna do great girl!!! Channel your nerves and anxiety into focusing on success!!! <3 <3

I feel exactly the same way. Not worried one bit until those pre-op's and then reality set in. Like you, not enough to cancel but everything we've worked for is becoming our current reality! We'll do great :)

Yes, once I had that last set of pre-op appointments I felt nervous and sad.

Then I went on the Liquid Protein diet and I lost almost 10 pounds. Once again, I felt like maybe I can do this on my own - no surgery necessary.

Two things that I had remind myself about were:

#1, I was super-compliant during the pre-op diet. Would I have been as capable of being super-compliant if I was not doing what I felt was necessary to be ready for surgery . The answer (over any length of time) is no.

#2 I am in the position where I have been approved for needing this surgery. Yikes! Despite having decades to fix the problem, I could not sustain success.

I am only two days post-op - so by no means an expert, and I can tell you that my relationship to wanting to eat food as changed. My hubby and kids have handled the cooking since I went on the pre-op liquid diet. When they were cooking or eating during the pre-op phase - I tucked myself away in a different part of the house - the food smelled so good...

Post-op the food still smells and looks good, but it does not feel tempting right now. I had read where others had written that, but I did not think I would feel that way. I think (as of now) that this surgery will give me a chance to re-calibrate my relationship with food. That is not something that could have ever happened without the surgery.

If you are mostly nervous about the surgery, then I will pass along my experience - the surgery went as planned. I definitely had surgery and I am recovering, however, things have gone well.

I wish you the best on your path to better health.

I was good until the hospital pharmacy left a message about prescriptions. It became very real and my nerves have had the best of me today. I only have four more days!

I hope your recovery is going well. I'm starting to feel much better I just started my 3rd day of pre op liquid diet the 1st day was rough , but much better now. I think my nervousness surrounded around not knowing how the Protein Shakes would taste had never had one before yesterday. It actually was pretty good. So that helped tremendously.

Since starting my liquid diet on the 11th I've lost 6 lbs. But while I was at my doctor's office I got light head, dizzy and sweating really bad. My doctor said he believes it happened because my sugar dropped. I didn't have anything before going to the doctor because I knew I was having blood work done. After the blood work they gave me some orange juice and I started feeling so much better.

Help! I slipped and had a couple of bites of food twice. I'm 10 days into my pre-op diet. Should I be worried? I've lost 10 lbs so far and still have 4 full days to go.

I'm not sure . But please for your safety during your surgery I wouldn't suggest doing it again. Your life it's not worth a couple bites of food. I suggest asking your nut. I'm 5 days in on my liquid diet and I've loss 6 lbs. I know it's a struggle just take every hour of the day as it comes. Good look to you luck to you.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
