Awaiting Approval (BCBS FEP)

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

So I have completed all of my insurance requirements and right now I'm in the process of waiting to be approved for my surgery. My Bariatric Surgeon submitted my paper work on 08/03/2917. For anyone out there who has BCBS FEP how long did it take to get approved? Thanks!

Hi congrats on your journey thus far. I have BCBS. My coordinator submitted my paperwork and I was approved the same day. My coordinator said it can take up to 30 days it just depends on how backed up they are. I'm in Ohio so I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Also I have Anthem BCBS so I'm not sure if that's the same as yours ( BCBS FEP). I hoped my info helped you some.

Thanks! Yes this helps a lot, I'm in Virginia so that's probably the difference. And congrats! Good luck on your Journey!

Hi there! I have United Health Care. When I made my appointment the Drs coordinator told me to schedule my psych eval get info from my primary care Dr that showed I was in some weight loss program or working on losing weight over the past 2 years. Then she said once I have all that it takes less than a week to get approved. So now I'm just waiting to get my psych eval. But working in the medical field I know every insurance company is different.

I have bcbs Fep. Mine was submitted at the beginning of July. It took over three weeks before my approval letter came.

Yeah I think that BCBS is super busy at this time of year. I called, and they said that I will have a response by 08/18 so fingered crossed [emoji1374]

Mine was submitted in July and last minute they wanted more stuff so it was neither approval nor denial. Surgery canceled. Resubmitted with 44 additional pages on the 31 and I got approval today and surgery is on the 23rd. I was told they had 15 days to make their decision.

My Dr. just submitted my Gastric Sleeve claim for approval to Fep BC/BS for approval!

Do you know if there is anyway to check the Status of the Surgery Claim on the Fep Blue Website instead of calling?

If you do call, who do you call and ask the question to?

Well no, honestly if you keep on calling they seem to work faster, once I called 3 days in a row it was magically approved. Haha

No I luckily only had to do 3 months, but the 6 months will fly by! Trust me!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
