How did it go post op with healing and getting adjusted? My biggest concern is the bathroom issues .

I'm 8 weeks out and have no regrets. My common channel is one and a half cm longer in length, so 150 cm as opposed to 100 cm, which means I absorb a little more than the average DS patient. They warned me about foul smelling gas and bathroom visits, but I haven't noticed any of that, perhaps due to my longer common channel. In fact, since I revised from the Lap-Band, my gas is way down. One bit of information no one told me about was that if you eat something that has too much fat or grease, you might see orange oil float to the top of the toilet. This freaked me out the first time it happened because no one had mentioned it. Might seem like a small issue, but whoever sees orange oil in the toilet? I still have to make food choices because I'm still able to eat carbs, but to be successful I have cut them way back. I'm finally seeing results in the mirror and in my clothes. It's a different life but one I can live with.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
