What am I doing wrong?

Recommended Posts

I workout 5 days a week and I don't eat any carbs besides natural ones in foods or sugars (as per my dr), and I've lost 27 lbs in 2.5 months and today in up 2 lbs.

I eat mostly chicken, some beef, and vegetables. I eat about 6 small meals a day. I don't graze all day or snack often, mostly j just eat my little meals. I hit my calorie goals for exercise via my smart watch and eat about 800-900 calories a day. Everything I eat, I've cooked myself so I don't eat fast food or takeout or 'convenient' meals.

I don't know what else to do. I'm doing cardio and weights alternating daily and I work 2 jobs so I'm always moving. I just don't know how to make the scale move.

Critique me, please. I need to know what to fix!

Thank you,

Amanda

Amanda, May I ask how many grams of Protein are you getting each day?

What was your starting weight? The less you weighed on surgery day, the slower you'll tend to lose.

Be mindful that most sleeved people don't lose 30+ pounds monthly. Realistic expectations are important during the weight loss phase.

I started at 215. I'm currently between 186.5-187.5. I know 30 lbs a month is a lot but I haven't lost 30 total in 2.5 months. It's just frustrating because I see everyone else's success stories and I want to know if I'm doing something wrong and what I should change if I am.

You are doing fine. From surgery to about 2.5 months out, I had lost about 20 pounds.

Other than perhaps over-exercising, I don't see what you could be doing wrong.

Our starting weights were similar: I weighed 218 on surgery day and had lost 27.5 pounds by 2 months out. It took me 17+ months to lose 100 pounds, so I was a slower loser. After those first 2 months I started losing at an average rate of anywhere from 3 to 7 pounds monthly.

Nonetheless, I'm still pleased with my sleeve. It's an amazing tool if you're patient and allow the process to unfold with realistic expectations.

Now, back to the exercise...a combination of under-eating and over-exercising is notorious for slowing down the rate of weight loss. Click on the article link below for more info.

As originally claimed, metabolic damage referred to a phenomenon wherby dieters (typically females) who had been on low calories and performing a large amount of cardio (i.e. typical physique sport contest prep)

  1. Stopped losing fat despite maintained low calories/high activity
  2. Started regaining fat despite those same maintained low calories/high activity

Hmm. I will have to look into over exercising. I didn't think that was possible, haha. Thank you!!

Amanda, also not the more you workout the more Protein you will need to drink.

Hi. I also started out around the same. 217. I lost 17 right away. Last week was my 2 month mark. I am now 190. So you're doing good! I think. I wish I could get on the other side of 190. Seem to be stuck there. Again. Everyone talks about stalls. I get so frustrated. I hardly eat. I mean I don't overeat. I do eat throughout the day. But I can hardly eat anything. I know I need to drink more Water. I have trouble doing that. I walk the treadmill. But I'm glad you posted. Because it's nice to read what others are going though. I guess I thought I would be losing faster not eating like I did before surgery. Maybe being 57 it's going to be slower. Who knows. But thanks again 😊

I eat all day. I never eat more than my 3-4oz of food, but I definitely eat 6 times a day. I think because I'm so active at the gym and one of my jobs is working with kids is physical, I need to be eating, even though it's never more than a few bites.

You are doing great. Keep it up. A gram of Protein per pound of lean body mass is a good goal. If you don't have one, a scale that measures body fat and lean is super helpful. You may be adding muscle and losing fat.

Thank you. I hope it's muscle that is the culprit. I am working out extra hard to lose weight and also get in shape for my upcoming wedding. I guess I'm just impatient and afraid I'm making mistakes because it's all so new. And my doctor isn't as easily accessible as I'd like him to be. He's only in my area one day a week for appointments as he has offices in multiple places so it's hard to get advice from him. I did finally get the PA's email so hopefully she'll get back to me soon!

Thank you to everyone again!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
