I'm having surgery on Monday 8/7 and I am eager to get it over with, but I am also nervous. I don't know how I will sleep this weekend with all this nervous and excited energy.

The first two weeks after surgery I felt good. My energy level was good and I was doing the Protein Shakes and Vitamin regimen. Now that I am in weeks 3-4 the puree stage-- not so great. As soon as I eat something I'm full and I'm having trouble getting my Protein shakes and fluids down because of the fullness. Plus I'm not going to the bathroom regularly and I'm more tired than I was after surgery. So I'm going to regroup and go back on the liquid diet for a couple of days to get my strength and energy levels back up and then try again with the puree stage. I have some recipes for 4oz protein shakes and also puree protein meals. I will let you know how it works out. Meanwhile, I am losing weight but to exhausted to complete my exercise. Hopefully, I can can get past this. Good luck with your surgery.

Hi I joined a group on Facebook and members was saying the same thing about going to bathroom regularly and they suggest using Miralax . They said to keep everything regular they use it everyday just putting it in some applesauce or a drink. I hope it gets better for you good luck

Sending positive energy vibes. I understand somewhat how you feel. My surgery is 8/25 and pre op is 8/8 . What makes me nervous I'm having my surgery 3 hours away from my family. Due to the distance they can't all be there when I have my surgery.

Thank you! My mom is flying in to stay with me while I'm in the hospital, but for a minute I thought I would be on my own. Stay positive, everything will go smoothly and we will join the loser's bench soon enough. Keeping you in my thoughts!

I'm starting mine on Monday!

I started my liquid diet today! I had my endoscopy yesterday and the doctor said I didn't need to do a liquid diet really except for 2 days before surgery but he told me if I wanted to to start today I could so I'm just doing it to prep myself for after surgery but it's going good so far! And why not wanna lose a few pounds before surgery anyways [emoji39]

Torrigurll:

My hospital stay was only two days and I felt good, minimum pain. However, my problems started with switching to puree foods. I sort of got sick and the transition was not going well so I switched back to full liquids. that did not go well because I was tired of the Protein Shakes and it became difficult for me to get them down so I made some changes. I switched to Centrum Liquid Multivitamin, Caltrate Bone Health Soft Chews, and I went to http://www.nashuanutrition.com who offers a variety of Liquid Protein choices that provides 15 g of Protein in just 1 oz and is recommended for post surgery patients including Bariatric patients. You should visit their website. I also purchased Glucerna protein shakes which I drink 4 oz every now or then in the morning just to make sure my blood sugar stays intact. Remember, however, I did not make these changes until 3-4 weeks after surgery, and it is working for me. I'm back on track. Another point is bowel movements. my doctor said I was supposed to everyday, but to me that didn't make sense since I'm not eating like that. So don't get upset if you only go every other day, but if you find your stool softeners aren't working, buy Miralax with is excellent because it is gradual and works with your body, easily dissolves in liquid and tastes okay. You'll go a couple of days after taking it. Or, add a little Citrucel to your diet. I use sublingual Vitamins b-12 because sublingual dissolve under the tongue and are easily absorbed into the body so any sublingual you find is a plus and you won't have to be bothered with excess chewing or crushing. Also I did multiple web searches and alternative choice for healthy meals. And if you don't feel like trudging to the gym everyday, try this video by Jane Fonda which assimulates walking a mile every day: Jane Fonda: Walking Cardio Workout : Level 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UabUNrjSE4&index=1&t=25s&list=PLD0BvlGc1FlAXBpGhQNNYx6_v43DArIH8

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
