Happy Day, everyone!

I was just approved for the breast lift/reduction, has anyone had that done as well? If so, I wanted to get a bit of feedback about the procedure and what your thoughts are after the fact. I'm nervous, but am very excited at the same time.

Thank you in advance, be well! :)

I had one years ago because I was a 40 H, and not that heavy-oh how things changed. But, best decision I ever made in my life. I was up and moving the next day without any issues. You'll do great!

Thank you for responding, I really appreciate that. Right now, I'm a 40DDD and of course after losing 200+ pounds, you can only imagine how far south they went. I'm looking forward to this and like you, I'm sure after the bit of discomfort from the surgery, I'll be forever thankful. :)

You'll feel like a million bucks. Thankfully after my lift and reduction, they didn't change much so I'm still good to go. The other skin however, that is a different story!

We tried the abdominal skin removal, but there's not enough skin there. I'm more than okay with that, I was more concerned with the breasts. Two more weeks of looking at the sag and those days will be, OVER!

My insurance did because it was due to the weight lost, for breast feeding and having children, that's more cosmetic. You never know, if you don't try. Give it a shot!

My insurance covered mine in 2010 and I have never had a kid. I was a 40DD/DDD and had documentation of years of chiropractic appointments and back issues with playing sports. I went to a 38C (was a 36C but gained some weight to a 38). I'm crossing my fingers I still have decent breasts when I get done losing weight haha.

I've never had any children, it makes me wonder how that would have changed things when it came to the approval. I didn't have to show any documentation in rf to back problems, I'm assuming the weight lost and the ridiculous amount of sagging, was enough to get it approved. But again, I don't know exactly what the surgeon submitted. I'm sure you'll be okay, once you get close to your goal weight. Time for another surgery, once you get there! :)

Yes mine too is from weight loss. Did you talk to your PCP to Get approval or directly to insurance co?

Luckily, I work for BCBS, so I had a heads up about some of the "must haves". I didn't go through my PCP, I went through my Bariatric Dr. and my plastic surgeon. When applying for any type of PA, it is always best to have it submitted by the specialist and not your MD. The surgeon submitted everything to the insurance.

Can you share some of the "must haves"

Depending on your policy, it could differ. W/ the lift, I didn't have any issues w/ the chafing, rashes, etc. Some policies will require those things to be a must. I'm a 40DDD, so they're very heavy and hurt my back, thankfully that was enough to get my approval. If you're having any issues due to the weight lost (only focus on that), make sure they're well documented and share that w/ your plastic surgeon. Now, I did have some discoloration under the breasts, I was later told, that was a sign of continuous skin irritation (so, maybe I did have those issues).

The Panni, we knew they were would deny, but we tried any way. In my case, the denial did not warrant a P2P. Not to be too graphic, you must hang lower than your lady part and I just don't have enough loose skin to justify the surgery. They need to see you've had NUMEROUS amounts of skin irritations for them to even blink an eye w/ thought of the reviewing. If that is a problem, make sure you get prescribed (must fill through the pharmacy, we need to see you had claims for it and for how long) creams or whatever else you use to treat it. If you buy something OTC, again, make sure it is documented w/ your surgeon so it is recorded in your medical chart. Make sure you're within or at goal and have been there for several months. Now, depending on your policy, this could differ a bit, but this is the gist of it.

Thanks so much. This is really helpful. I was wondering at what point to make an appointment with the plastic surgeon. I always thought at goal, too, but I saw on Youtube that one woman's plastic surgeon wanted to see patients around the 200 mark. He didn't want patients quite at goal because when he takes off the skin, the patient afterwards would be under weight.

That makes sense too--although being under weight is a problem I'd like to experience, at least once.

So I was really lost there.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
