Well I joined a few days ago, but finally able to sit down and make my introduction post. I am VERY familiar with forums, i help run a car club forum, and belong to a baby forum. I have a 1 year old daughter and have been married a year and a half. I first went to the siminar back on Sept 11, and just knew i had to take control of my life and make this change. I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun! I had my consultation yesteraday with my dr and we set the surgery for Nov. 5th. They said I could have it as soon as monday, but I wanted to wait, because I wanted to be able to take my daughter trick-or-treating. My hopes for having the surgery the first monday of Nov, are to have the 2 weeks of solids down, so that mushies come right around thanksgiving, and i can have the soft foods.

I am VERY scared of going under, i've never been put to sleep nor had surgery. My first time staying over night or even being in my own hospital room, was when I had my little girl. And some of that experience was a lil scary because of the dumb nurses, and not to mention the 33hr labor. ANYWAYS, im just scared about the operation, as i've never had one. Thankfully its minimal.

Another thing that concerns me is, i am a stay at home mom and go to school, thankfully this semester i signed up for all online classes. Well,. my parents are out of town for work, so i am taking care of my brother and sister, along with my husband and daughter. We live in a 2 story house and im just trying to figure out how im going to go through the day and give all i need to for my lil girl til someone gets home to help me. Also with that problem is i am keeping it a secret. Only telling my Husband, Mom, Grandma, and Mother in Law, along with my best friend of 12 years. So the day OF surgery, i may be alone or my husband in the waiting room with my 1 yr old = . So we'll have to see.

Any suggestions? Comments?

Happy to be here and a part of this forum! Im SO glad that someone started this place!

Congratulations on getting started on the road to a healthier you. I am new to this site as well. Have my initial consult with the surgeon on the 16th. I just wanted to tell you, that I have also found that I dont get an overwhelming amount of replies when I post here. BUT, I read, read, READ, READ and READ some more. I have learned so much here. These people are truly an inspiration to me. It's amazing that a group of people that I have never met have given me such a positive attitude and helped me in finding the courage to move forward with this surgery. Good luck to you on your journey ahead.

Welcome to all of you new folks!!!!! There are so many now it is hard to keep up ! The surgery is pretty simple, so don`t be afraid. You will be a little sore for a few days and may have gas pains. So.... walk, walk, walk, walk, and sip a lot of fluids. I really love my band it curbs my appetite a whole lot and i can not eat much at one time. Best thing i ever did. Donna

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
