Hello Everyone,

I've been a lurker for about two months now. I was banded on 12/20/04 and have had a "smooth ride" thus far considering that I have done extensive research on the lap band and knew what to expect. Today, however, I have been experiencing some pain on my far right side. This pain has been fairly persistent, and radiates towards the center of my chest. I am fairly young, and considering that I have never had any heart problems prior to banding, I'm thinking the pain is there because of the band. Has anyone experienced these types of pains?

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks,

kibuluna

Hi, Congratulations on getting your Band! You probably will feel all kinds of aches and pains in various areas of your body as you recover from this surgery. Are you running any temperature? Is the pain consistent or comes and goes, movement aggravate it? We're not medical professionals. If you're concerned about this, the best thing to do is to contact your surgeon's office with your ?? How much weight are you wanting to lose? Best of luck to you and hope to get to know you better here.

What side is your port on? Do you have any incisions at all on the right? Is it possible this could still be your diaphragm? Do you still have the post-op shoulder pain? Do you still have a gallbladder? Hmm..

Let us know what you find out.

Good luck!

This is one of the hardest parts of banding. Everything feels so weird and is so individual. I had many strange pains and twinges. Unfortunately, each of us has to decide which ones need further attention.

It never hurts to come and explain things and get suggestions or comparisons. Many times my eating behaviors are to blame for pains that make my chest uncomfortable. Keep track of when it happens and see if you can find a cause. If it persists or gets worse, by all means call your surgeon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
