4days out questions.

Recommended Posts

I am only 4 days out from my surgery I waited a year to go through it and now that I have i have some anxiety about some things. I was wondering after anyone has gone thru this surgery did u deal with bad spasms when swallowing and if so how did u help them go away or help to reduce them it makes it so hard for me to want to drink or try when I know it will result in pain spasms. Also I was wondering about gas is there some really great way to ease it or do I have to basically let it run its course? Any info or options would be awesome thanks u for your time. I'm excited to be able to be part of a large group of others who have had this surgery as well.

I had spasms the first week. I had less spasms when I drank warm/hot liquids. They should eventually go away. I'm almost 4 weeks out and I haven't had any since. As for gas, ya got to walk walk walk hon, burp and pass gas it out.

Thank u about the spasms I haven't had much warm stuff been scared but I will give it a try I'm going to try to have some Soup tonight for dinner it does get easier as the days go on and I know it will just painful so I worried. The gas has been one of the worse I have been walking a lot hard to know if I'm over doing it at times cause it keeps the spasms down to but then when I rest it hurts to move again gotta find my happy medium I guess thank u so much for you reply...[emoji178]

you may want to try Gas X strips, they've been helping me.

Walking was the best medicine for the gas. I agree with what @Newme17 said about warm liquids. Room temp or warm/hot was all I could tolerate for the first week. You should be feeling better day by day, just listen to your body and rest when you need it.

You're welcome hon and it will get better each day. Unfortunately, gas x strips only work if you've got intestinal gas. The gas they pumped you up with isn't in your intestines but in your stomach cavity. The med wouldn't work there. Hang in there...and walk. 😊

Gas-X helped me quite a bit right after surgery. Mommydb0811, you should at least try them and keep walking, walking, walking. It will get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
