Our weather has been lousy so at a week post op I've just been doing laps in the house. I have a bike but not a treadmill and the bike was too painful to do this early. So today I took my first walk outside. I feel so spent. Like a wet noodle. I didn't even go far! How'd I lose so much stamina?

Don't worry! You've just had major surgery and your body is recovering from the trauma. Plus, you're eating next to nothing right now, so you've got rather little fuel to go on. It will get easier, and it will happen soon if you keep at the walking and do just a little bit more every time. I certainly didn't go far a week postop! Don't be discouraged :)

Thanks. I felt like an invalid! My legs are still wobbly. I'll keep at it.

@Joann454

It will get better. My first 2 days post-op were pure hell, but by Day 3, everything started to improve and then steadily improved every day after that. By the second week post-op, I was able to walk 2 miles every day. Fatigue was an issue for me for a solid 2 months post-op, though. I took a six week medical leave from work, and I took a get-in-the-bed nap every single afternoon during those 6 weeks!

How did you feel after you walked two miles? (I did a 1/4 mile and felt so weak)
I just crawled into bed. It's making me crazy because it's so beautiful out.

I usually took my nap after the walk. The walk was in 2 parts. My spa (tanning, hydro therapy, message, etc.) is 1 mile from my house. I would walk there, have the services, and then walk home.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
