Two Days away from my Surgery and...

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 days away from my Gastric Sleeve Surgery and all of a sudden I'm getting so nervous. Maybe it's because I'm so hungry and I think that's what's making me emotional. I'm down 24lbs so far on my pre op Diet. I keep telling myself nothing will ever taste as good as healthy will feel and it's totally helped me keep my willpower. I'm sure it's normal to feel overwhelmed right before surgery. After the surgery you don't feel hungry right? Maybe it's just all in my head.

It's quite normal to be nervous. Your pre-op wasn't for nothing and you're totally right, healthy is much better tasting than some bad food, even though it can sound real good. The first 24 hours of surgery you will most likely not even bother thinking about food, you'll just be trying to get comfortable and drink your water/ice chips down. The hospital will have you on a liquid bariatric diet and so that's the time to figure out how your tummy will take it. I did not tolerate cold items. Hot broth/coffee was good for me. You definitely won't be hungry really. I didn't start having hunger about 5 days post op. Even then, and even now, it's still no more than a couple of Tbsp of food. I believe all will be well. Congrats on your upcoming surgery hon. Blessings to you. 😊

About a week before surgery, I had the jitters. I had lost a good bit of weight. Maybe I could do this on my own. Why risk surgery. I'm pretty sure that it is common.

But now, looking at myself 9 months later, I know there is no way I could have ever achieved this. I'm 94 pounds down from April 2016. I went from squeezing into a size 22 to having a size 10 start to be big. People don't recognize me who haven't seen me in the last year.

This is a major change. You're scared. That's OK. You have got this.

You are fierce. You are stronger than you realize.

I loved reading all the responses to this, I'm still a few months out from my operation, and I'm incredibly nervous, but I'm so happy to hear that I'm not alone

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
