CPAP Machine Usage - Kaiser MD

Recommended Posts

Question, my nutritionist said I would have to have 75% total usage on my CPAP machine but I have 69%. My BMI is 53.5 and the only comorbidity I have is sleep apnea. I have met all the requirements of the program, and as of I have met the weight loss requirements. My last appointment is June 14th, then they are submitting me for approval. Will I get denied? :( I'm so worried? Do you think they will make me use the CPAP Machine for a longer time, then check it again? I'm so nervous!

You really should be at 100% CPAP usage. As a CPAP user myself, I understand that it can be tough. If they state that you need to be at or above a certain usage, they very well could deny you for not meeting that level of usage. Why are you only at 69% usage of your CPAP? What about the CPAP are you having issues with?

Well, I found out that the approvers only needed 30 days usage. They ran it for 5 months making it 69%. I'm going to go back to them second week of June and I will be at 95% or so. Well, during the first couple of months was just getting used to it. I don't like the way the mask feels, but I do like the sleep level I get using my machine. Now I'm used to it, so I pretty much use it everyday.

Check into getting a new mask. I know I wasn't sold on most models. Having a beard makes my choices more restrictive (I found nasal pillows work MUCH better for me). I also found that using a hose management hook made things MUCH easier to sleep with. Check out cpap.com for some hose management items as well as a hose and mask covers. Makes them MUCH nicer to have pressed on your face all night. I'm to the point where it's weird NOT to use it. Like when I can't take it with me, when I go camping etc. LOL My old machine has been to Nicaragua twice now.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
