It is sad that folks cant support us. My daughters dont like the idea either. Some think its the easy way out. It is actually one of the toughest decisions I have ever made. But I just keep thinking to myself, Amputate the tummy or the legs...I think the tummy has got to go...F!@#% what others think..lol

Six months seems like such a long time but with all the nutrition lessons you go through it takes that much time to learn everything, before I knew it my last appointment came pretty quickly and I thought six months was never going to happen. I stuck with the program and now have my surgery date of June 21st, my pre-op is on June 8th and now it seems like forever til I get my surgery done. So now I've said goodbye to alot of foods, added Protein to even my yogurt, amongst other things and I am now enjoying being fat for the last month I will ever have to ever again, so I'm not stressing that my stomach shows through my shirt because I know it's not gonna be long. I took the past six months trying to say goodbye to bad food habits, and learning how to add better ones. I'm still having trouble with soda, and I still hate Water but I'm getting it together and not stressing because six months is over and I only have one month left and I will read bariatric pal forever, sometimes it's a great help and sometimes people ignore you on here which is very rude. Just know that six months goes by so quickly, I was 238 pounds for about ten years and I'm down to 207, but I fluctuate all the time and decided to get some real help. Everyone in my family is against it and won't even go to the surgery with me, thank god for good girlfriend besties, I'm 55 and I am ready I don't care how much pain or the fact that I can never eat as much as I used to I just want my body back, good luck on your journeys I will keep you posted.

@nomorefattypatty if I had to wait 6 months I would have to wait and do whatever it takes. Time goes pass fast especially when you have a great support team. I am doing this for me first then my family. I can't wait to get my life back on track. I been trying to lose on my own for years I can come down 20 pounds and that's just it. I paid all that money for 3 months so my meals can be delivered to me I eat only what they send and workout 4 days a week and still nothing. This is my last resort.

@nomorefattypatty your post made me smile. I know that it's a lot of people who don't have support. I wish I had all my family on my team. My mother in law is the worst.

jiminy_cricket congratulations on your date. last year I brought a conversation to my sisters and my mom about maybe getting the sleeve and guess what, they all had something to say. My sister are also over weight and for some reason they think they are a size 2 not. They are just as over weight as me. I am just ready to change. The only one who I can say really support me is my husband and daughter. So this time I am not telling anyone even when I get a date. It will be hard because we are all very close.

I totally understand where you are coming from. As long as you have your husband and daughter behind you that's all that matters.

Hi! I'm also from Philadelphia. I just received a date of June 15th and I start my liquid diet on June 2nd. I've only told my mom, spouse, and aunt, and the only one that's supportive is my aunt. I can empathize with you no having support.

Hi. I am from Delaware County, about 15 min from the airport. I am having the sleeve on June 14. Good luck!

I never tried the meal options because I could never afford that but I even lost almost 50 lbs and gained it all back. I've been able to maintain my 34 lb. weight loss only because of what I've learned thru the nutrition classes. I'm just tired of this I can't even look in a mirror without being disgusted by my reflection, that's when I decided surgery was right for me. I am completely sad when I look in any reflection of myself and my mom doesn't understand how bad my self esteem issues are because I don't tell her or anyone. I have finally had to tell her that I hate myself because of this, I've had people on fb even call me a fat disgusting c word on more than one occasion and I just can't take it any more. I'm already bipolar and fighting depression is hard enough every day and adding name calling to that makes it very hard to keep my head up. I'm not really upset about people's opinions of me but it does hurt because I've never been fat before and knowing what I know now I will never make jokes about fat people ever again. Maybe being overweight has made me a better person, but I've learned my lesson and it's time to move on to a thinner me. I don't think people put enough of their feelings on this forum maybe out of fear but my long answers are just things I think people fear but don't want to talk about. I believe this forum could mean so much more if everyone could read what others reasons are for having this surgery. It's not just about the surgery and it goes way deeper than that.

My mom is the only one who really hates the idea and that's only because she has heard and seen a lot of people gain the weight back or have died from the surgery. I told her to go on this website and at least listen to to all the positive mentions not just listen to the negative. She's deathly afraid something will happen and doesn't feel I have the right to put her through this. She'll see how much happier I am when it's done and I will maintain my healthy weight because i am only doing this once.

tee2008 congrats I can't wait to post a date. How long did you have to wait.

Thanks and it took 1 week to get the ins approval. I started my ins requirements January 29th. At the beginning it seemed long but now that it's almost here it's so exciting! I hope yours all goes as planned!

I totally agree. Being over weight is much deeper than what's on the surface. I appreciate your post.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
