That time of the month during surgery.

Recommended Posts

Were any of you ladies on your period during surgery? Got mine today and my day is Tuesday. My hospital has you completely naked under the gown, wonder how this will go down with the catheter and all.

Thanks everyone! Period always shows up when I travel or something super important.

Happened to me too. Don't stress about it. You're not allowed to wear a tampon during surgery though, so enjoy the pad. :P

Happened to me. I was embarrassed telling them all but its fine. They will let you have a pad on with disposable underwear. They will take it off to do the cath but i was told it happens alot.

I have an IUD and rarely have periods. Wouldn't you know, it decided to come the morning of my surgery. Thankfully it's super light when it does come, but none the less I was mortified. I told the nurse and she said to not worry about it. That it happens a lot.

Had surgery on 5/10/17. My heaviest day. I wasn't embarrassed as I was sure I wasn't the only one. But after surgery for the next 2 days I clotted like never ever before. And I've had 3 kids. It truly freaked me out.

You may not have a catheter, I know I didnt. The surgery was just over an hour, so they said they saw no need for it.

I got mine the day after surgery. I knew to bring supplies. They said it's very common for women to get their period around surgery due to the stress. No big deal. They will give you whatever you need.

I didn't have a catheter during my surgery. I asked them if I was going to, and they told me they don't put one in you unless you are going to be under a certain amount of time. I can't recall what the time amount was now, but it wasn't going to be long enough for me. Now that doesn't necessarily mean all hospitals are like that, but that was my experience. I was grateful because I hate those things. B)

when I got my lapband in 10 years ago, I just left my tampon in and didn't say anything. But it was day surgery and no catheter.

Mines came on while sitting in the bed waiting for surgery. I guess nervousness and being anxious for surgery triggered it. The nurses were cool about it. They gave me a diaper type thing and I was on my way. It wasn't too bad from moving to one bed to the operating table.

They will handle it the same way they handle bloody show or discharge during a C-section. I had an induced labor turned emergency C-section after my Water broke, and the nurses did not bat an eye at the blood and Fluid when putting in the catheter.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
