Nervous, need advice! ( Pre op date June 5th)

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all!

I have my pre-op upcoming and I am really nervous, has anyone ever gotten to pre-op and been approved by insurance and your doctor and then told oh no we cannot do the surgery? Or maybe if there is a hiccup what can I expect? I guess the unknown is scaring me/consuming me. I am very excited but I feel like I am not prepared and I need to know what can I expect worst case. Any and all advice is welcome!

TIA!

Well, put it this way, if they find some new, shocking reason that you can't have surgery, you'll be too worried about the new problem to even worry about the operation (and you'll be grateful they found out)!

But, unless you have been feeling bad, chances are excellent that everything is perfect!

Good luck!

Odds are that all the pre-op tests will be fine. Try to keep busy to occupy your mind and the time will fly by!

Thank you, what will they do?

@Lexington1020 Usually they'll do basic blood work like a chemistry panel and a blood count. Among other things, those tests can look at your liver function, electrolytes like potassium and sodium, whether you're anemic, or have any current infections.

They usually do an EKG to make sure you have no heart irregularities, and a chest x-ray to make sure you have no lung problems that have to be taken in to account before putting you to sleep for surgery.

Different surgeons may have their own preferences for pre-op tests, so you may have other tests, or not require one of the ones I mentioned. The tests are meant to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
