You will be able to eat most things eventually. There will be foods you just can't tolerate. I am thankful that I just can't tolerate potatoes. They make my stomach roll. I loved potatoes in all their glorious fried, baked and mashed forms. I have given up my love for potatoes because my body says "Absolutely not!" There is no reason for me to need a potato now because they are loaded with carbs and just something I should avoid.

I have not tried a full, blown steak yet. Just haven't gone there. I think eventually I will but I will definitely cut it into small pieces and chew the heck out of it before I swallow. That's what we should be doing anyway.

Honestly, one of my struggles with my WLS decision was taking a body that could tolerate any and all foods and turning it into a sensitive little ninny. Well, that kinda happened but it is all worth it for the good health that I am enjoying today.

Something to consider.

Have a great weekend.

So I can have meats if my body is ok with it that's so good to know cuz I was told if I loved meats I'd better say goodbye cuz after surgery I couldn't have meats and I know I have to chew chew chew good but I was just worried I couldn't have meats and started to regret my surgery and sit and think I messed my life up if I couldn't have meats I use to love anymore

Absolutely! You can have meats as soon as it is cleared on your plan to resume a regular diet. I enjoy chicken, ground beef, and pork makes me really happy:-) I love diced ham in my eggs in the morning. Just remember so early on that you should only try one new thing at a time as you introduce new foods so you can pinpoint the problem stuff.

Example: I just tasted kimchi over fried potatoes at a restaurant and just got sick. Thankfully my tummy didn't rebel in the restaurant but on the ride home. I was sure it was the kimchi but learned a couple days later after nipping a potato off my son's plate that it was not the kimchi. Tried kimchi one more time and all was well. My son said he would have put his money on the kimchi:-o

Enjoy!

You will eventually be able to eat steak again. I ate my first bites of steak at about 90 days post op. I remember not really enjoying beef or pork when I first introduced them back into my diet. It seemed like any slightly fatty meat would really upset my stomach. I am about 9 months post op and I can honestly say that since about 5 months post op, I have had zero problems with any food textures. I enjoy steak now but usually only eat about 3-4 ounces.

Ok, I just have to say that I am so happy that you can eat Kimchi! I know that it is an individual thing, But I love Korean food.

I eat steak and have for quite awhile. Maybe not during the first 4 or 5 months, but I absolutely eat steak now.

Now here is my norm...First I am 3 and 1/2 years out from my RNY. I have tried to eat steak at least 3 or 4 times but no go!! I had Strictures which started in Nov, Dec of 2013. Then Jan of 2014, July 2014. With my last on being Jan of 2015. Strictures are kind of like scar tissue which closed off my Stoma, I couldn't even hold Water down but all is great now. I can eat hamb, chicken and pork but they need to be very moist. I had lost down to 117#'s in 6 months. But I did have a 8# gain but that was ok for sure. I beleive the strictures had some to do with that. Here are my STATS: HW 249 LW 117 SW 232 CW 125#'s. I have maintained my 124# loss for over 3 years now. Not being able to eat steak HHMM Let me think, yes I miss it but being thinner feels so much better than eating a steak. People that say YOU WILL NEVER be able to eat yada yada aren't the ones to listen to. Your journey is just that YOUR JOURNEY. Each of us do our own choices. Hey, if you can't eat a steak maybe you can chopped it up in a blender just not puree but chopped some. Who knows it might be good. LOL

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
