Two days post op (banded 3rd Oct)

Recommended Posts

Well I am now officially banded. I was banded two days ago, and have only just gotten home from hospital. My surgeon suggested staying in a little longer than the usual 24 hours as I have three children at home (my youngest being 3) just to give me that little bit extra healing.

I had a complete melt down on Tuesday night and cried hysterically for about 20 minutes, and I felt so much better after having a huge cry. I was very calm going into hospital on Wedesday morning, and the process was very quick, as I was secong on the list. So before I new it I was back in the ward.

I have had a fair amount of wind/gas pain, and have been doing heaps of walking to try and get rid of it, and it's working thank goodness. I have had no shoulder pain from the wind, mine was mainly in my sternam. I have been drinking peppermint tea because that apparently helps to leviate the problem.

I have been taking regular pain killers and am feeling really good. WOW I can't believe I am now officially banded - YIPPEE.

I know exactly how you feel, I was so nervous leading up to it. I can't believe it is now all done and that my new journey begins. I honestly don't feel hungry at all, but it is only early days yet, so I am assuming the hunger will slowly return.

Good luck Jenne for the 11th - you'll do great!!

I too am on the "other side" now. Had my gallbladder removed and was banded on 10/2. So far, so good. I've not really needed any pain meds post-op, and just have minor shoulder discomfort plus a sore belly!

Moopymom you are so glad you have not needed many pain meds. I am still taking them regularly at the moment. It's currently 3 am here in Perth (Australia), and I am a little unconfortable and can't sleep, so I thought I'd come and check out my "new web family" and see if I have any replies.

Are you having any problems sleeping at night since you've had the band put on?

Rastis, I remember several threads about difficulty sleeping around the time I was banded. It seems to me that quite a few of us were having a lot of trouble sleeping for the first few weeks after surgery. It went away.

Congrats on being banded!

Thanks heaps faithmd, it's so great to get replies, especially when they are encouraging. I am glad to see that my sleepless nights will soon come to an end.

WOW - Julie, you have done brilliantly, seeing results like this just keeps me even more inspired. Hopefully in the months to come I can be posting some great inspirational losses on here as well. Cheers!

Rastis,

I've been really fortunate; I've been able to sleep well during the night without much pain. I don't think I'm typical though - I've had two total knee replacements, and this pain level compared to the knee replacements is very manageable for me.

I know this is not the best of topics, but I am now very constipated due to my meds, does anyone have any suggestioins as how I can get things moving. I am drinking loads of Water, but yet to no avail.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
