I am 3 months out almost 4 and I still struggle with getting all the meals/protein shakes and Water in a day. I am still on about 2-3oz a food only and with the shakes in between I stay pretty full all day. I find it is getting hard to have willpower around the family. I am holding out and telling myself that this is for the best and I can do it, but when they bring home fast food or make a yummy cake for a special occasion and it is just sitting here in the house...I tell ya it is really hard and sometimes I cry, but then I am able to bring myself back out of that and go for a walk or something ad reset my mind set. Anyone who is thinking about doing this please be sure!! Everyone thinks about the pain of surgery, but not many think about the pain mentally. I took a year to decide if I was going to do this or not, if I was mentally able to do this, if I really wanted to give up certain foods forever, and for me it is forever, I will never go back to those bad foods. It is not easy for sure, but it is worth it if you stick with it. <3

To date I have lost as of this morning 74 pounds, that is no joke and makes me feel great not only physically but mentally. I can finally walk miles with my family and not get winded, I can go hiking and actually enjoy it. I have not felt this good in at least 23 years!!! If you really want to do this surgery and you prepare your mind you CAN do it and it will be so worth it. Good luck to everyone!! ^.^

This is where i struggle i don't think i want to give up certain foods forever . I have done great with my band and would still have a small piece of cake or an ice cream with my grand baby just not eat it like i use too. I don't want to lose my band i meet with my band doctor tomorrow to see what he thinks and with people removing their band they have the same issues as i do and are at 10 yrs like me and with the ulcers my primary doc said i need my band out. I'm online trying to get as much info as I can before i make a choice

Every doctor is different from what I have come to learn in what they tell their patients regarding food ect..My doctor is very strict and he told me at the very first meeting with him I would have to give up certain foods forever. So for me that is what I have to do. I know some who are farther out then me who are allowed by their doctor to eat things that I will never be able to eat. I am sure I could do what I wanted, no one would know but me right? I won't though, I made this choice well before the surgery to give up those foods forever. So really it does come down to what you can do, and what your surgeon tells you if you can follow it or not. You are right it is not an easy thing to do and it is a choice that takse a lot of thought. Best of luck to you!

When I saw my surgeon, he told me it wasn't if but when he would get my band. He said I would eventually have to get rid of it and he thought it was better to plan it then end up in the emergency room.

Regarding giving up foods. I did well with the lapland and ate all things in moderation.

I plan on doing the same thing with the sleeve. Of course, I will be checking my Protein. My surgeon didn't say I couldn't, but said if something is a problem for me and starts affecting my success that I would need to rethink that. I am retired and my husband I travel a lot. I enjoy the social aspect, but, always share meals and only eat part of it. I don't indulge like I did before the lapland. I plan on handling the sleeve the same way. Naturally, if I see, it is leading to trouble I will regroup and start a new plan. For me, NEVER and NO with food, send me down a path of no turning back. As long as I know I can if I want, somehow, I don't want as much and don't eat it.

Beset of luck to you

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
