First time anesthesia tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

My gastro will be doing an endoscopy on me tomorrow. Sounds wonderful. Not too thrilled with being put down. It's my first time going under. I really hope I don't end up as a viral youtube video! HAHA!

Surgery day was my first experience with anesthesia. I was so freaked out about it, but it ended up being super easy! I worried myself to death over nothing.

Good luck tomorrow!

The anesthesia for endoscopy isn't bad. It's not full on general anesthesia like you will have for the actual surgery. It's a twilight anesthesia. You'll be completely out of it and wake up in recovery but it's much easier to handle than general in my opinion.

Thank you all! It was fine :) very easy peasy. I felt so chatty and confident when I woke up. It was wonderful.
I wish they told me it was twilight lol, my Grandma had that for her caterats. She had it good!!!
I was just glad I didn't do anything embarrassing. I was chatty but I'm super sure the nurses are used to that. My neighbors didn't feel the same. Maybe I got lucky haha.

I was nervous for the endoscopy, but it was so quick. They sedate you, it's a different drug than a surgical anesthesia. I worried for nothing. The hardest part for me was being hungry and thirsty because my appointment was at 3:45 in the afternoon

I'm still in the beginning phases on wls, but with the endoscope was the complete surgery or a surgery just to get a view of your stomach?

It's not surgery, it's just a diagnostic test. Zero pain, very quick and easy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
