Some post op questions

Recommended Posts

1. How soon did you start taking the chewable Vitamins? I'm one week out, do you think it's ok to start? My instruction sheet says to take them but does not say if I can start right away.

2. How long did it take your large incision to scab over or close up? How were you told to care for your incision?

3. How soon did you get to start mushies?

Hey Mandi

1. I take a liquid multi (Hivita) but I am sure as long as you chew them properly or even suck them it will be fine. You could even get a pill crusher and crush them.....I have been doing that with my hayfever drugs and mixing it in with a bit of juice!

2. My incisions started to scab by about the 2nd day. I am almost a week out of surgery now and I am due to have the staples removed tomorrow. I just have a thin line of scabbing but some swelling still. I have had no troubles with my incisions and even sleep on my tummy with care!

3. I start mushies 2 weeks after surgery (so next week!) for a period of 2 weeks. This varies from dr to dr and even country to country.

Hope this helps..........Lindy

Mandi,

I started the chewable Vitamin the day after surgery.

My incisions started healing 2 days after. Only thing I was told is not to bathe ( showers were ok), swim or soak the areas too much. They are all healed over at 30 days.

I had 2 full weeks of liquids before the mushies were allowed. I went another week longer just to make sure everything was good.

Good luck, the mushies were a real treat too.....Dave

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
