I want to feel like I am doing *something* to adjust to my new lifestyle in May. I have a relatively low BMI so my preop diet doesn't begin until 48 hours out. Do you think doing a liquid diet 2 meals a day is a good idea or pointless right now?

I'm in the same situation, and I had my op March 27. There's not a lot of point to going liquids so early because consumption just feels so different after surgery, but you CAN help your future self adjust a lot by upping your exercise if you can.

My BMI was 31 going in . I lost more weight in the pre-op then I have in the same amount of time post-op. In 14 days I lost 14pounds. 2 weeks post op I lost 10 pounds .

Im glad I did it as it's not such a shock to my system & I think it sets your mind on the right track. Remember the weight doesn't fly off, I'm already stalled, but I'm in no rush. I'm 2.5 weeks out.

You sound just like me!

I was hoping the scale at my hotel was wrong, but I'm up a few pounds and stalled at 2 1/2 weeks :(

im still on track but I lost 13 pounds pre-op. Was UP 6-8 pounds home from the hospital. Then in about 2 weeks down almost 14 (including that water) and now nothing.

I only had to do the liquid diet 7 days pre-op, but I did it 2 weeks and I felt like it helped the detox and prepared my body for the adjustment.

Exercising is a great prep though and will help your recovery.

I'd say don't do liquids. You're going to be on liquids, purees and mush for weeks and weeks. Just eat sensibly now.

I'm a low BMI patient and lost a bit of weight in the 3 months prior to surgery, which was 2 days ago on April 10. My doctor had me do the same 2 week pre-op diet as his other patients and I think it helped me transition to my new lifestyle. A few months ago, I gave up sugar, carbonated beverages, alcohol, & caffeine, and focused on quality Protein and fresh fruits & vegetables. And so far since surgery I've not had any nausea or vomiting and no shoulder pain.

I also didn't do any food funerals. I've enjoyed lots of great food in my life so enough is enough; now it's time to stop yo-to dieting for good and get back to and maintain a healthy/normal weight. I'm excited for my future!

I was wondering the same thing. My BMI is 31 and I will be having surgery on May 15th with Dr. Illan. I only have a three day pre-surgery diet also. I think I am going to just eat sensibly like I am now anyway lol. I am starting to get really excited now that it is only a month away!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
