Advice Please! How do I get over this?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

A couple of years ago, my BF wanted to buy me some clothes for xmas. I should first say that this guy is totally fashion savvy, always looks like the cover of GQ. Anyway, I told him he should never buy me clothes because I'm super picky about what I wear. Which is only partly true.

The real truth was that I was/am embarassed at my size. Before my band in August I was a 20 and now I'm probably a 16-18 (29# gone). He told me this past weekend that he really wants to go shopping with me and buy me lots of gorgeous clothes.

I guess I shouldn't complain about this "problem" -- most women's partners never want to shop -- but honestly, I am having major anxiety about it! I told him that right now I consider all clothes transitional and that I'd think about it when I get to be the size I want to be.

But I don't know if I'll ever get over the psychological thing. It's always so safe to shop with your girlfriends -- they can relate to having hips. How can I start to feel comfortable about my body enough to actually send a guy out to get me the right size of something when I'm in a dressing room! The thought is mortifying to me.

Does your body image issues get better as you get smaller? It's strange that I'm totally fine with him in the bedroom but can't image the department store dressing room!

Help!

Awww new! I feel your pain. I agree a guy will never know what it is like to have hips, boobs, ect. BUT that doesn't mean they can't help and make good decisions! They are good at that!

However I would talk to him, and tell him you should really wait to buy clothes! You will not be wearing them long and you will feel like you have wasted money.

And, no the body issues don't really go away, but we learn to help it happen. Each day gets better!!

I'm just envious. My husband won't even shop for his OWN clothes.

I do all the clothing shopping here. He tells me his size and says get stuff I want him to wear. Such a bummer, I love clothing shopping and wish he'd go with me.

Is he still your boyfriend? If it's serious and you're comfortable enough to be with him in 'other ways' hint hint wink wink, you shouldn't be uncomfortable with him seeing you try on outfits. Have him pick out what he likes, and you discreetly grab your size.

When husband started doing laundry, I didn't want him seeing my clothing size.. and then I realized he was a dultz and wouldn't even know what it meant!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
