6 days post op and craving meat

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on March 28th and Im in the liquid stage but for the last two day I have really had craving for more solid flavorful food than broth and fruity drinks. I know i can't have solid foods but are there any suggestions what to try for these next two weeks?

I had surgery the same day as you, and am feeling the same thing. I found some Flavor Infused broth from Swanson's on Amazon. It was expensive, but having more flavor really helped to conquer the craving. I got the Mexican tortilla and the Thai ginger. I haven't tried the Thai flavor yet, but the tortilla flavor was great. It was a bit spicy, so I started with just an ounce, but it sat fine, and I had 3 more ounces. Today I got some unflavored Protein Powder to add to it, so it ups the Protein content of the broth as well. I keep telling myself "I can do this for one more week", but I find I'm fantasizing about cottage cheese ;).

I also had my surgery on the 28th last mnth and I already when shopping for tuna, eggs, Soups and a few other things today... I don't know if the craving is in my head heart or stomach but I've been really fighting... smelling food or seeing commercials even when my family is eating other things... it was cool the first 4 days I don't know what happened yesterday

It is crazy I read a lot before surgery and I thought my stomach would feel full even if I did not eat. I read your mind changes and thinks your full too. Not me I feel like I am somewhat hungry, stomach empty and I could eat real food with no problem.

That's exactly how I felt on liquids. Everyone's said its head hunger.....I disagree. When I recently started my puree phase the hunger for the most part stops for a really long time after a tiny portion of approved whatever. My 2 cents are that we feel hungry on the liquid phase because we ARE but the liquids pass through our stomachs so fast we never get full enough for relief. Maybe head hunger happens when we actually eat food and still crave, but in my experience the first 2 weeks it is hunger. Stay strong! It is WAY BETTER on the puree phase!

Christina.rose. Your post is so helpful. I have been waking up in the morning with my stomach rumbling with hunger. I feel somewhat light headed until I get my first Protein Drink in. I am sure that isn't head hunger. I've been worried that it would always feel this way with my new sleeve, but your post is very reassuring. Thank you!

Im glad it was useful. Its just my opinion, but I was so scared that I was the only hungry sleever out there until some soft foods filled me up! Yay!

I also got sleeved on March 28th and the hunger pangs started yesterday along with headache and general shakiness. I believe this is real hunger combined with low blood sugar. It gets better once I have a Protein Shake but it starts up again not too longer after. It's not in my head

You can add Protein powder to the broth, it may take some of the craving away.

Also try to make by the broth from scratch, with meat and veggies, then freeze the meat and veggies - add some Protein powder. It will help.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
