I need advise please

Recommended Posts

So I am 3 months post op. I have not been able to eat or drink much since surgery. I had a hiatal hernia repaired at time of surgery. My health is not good I literally have been vomiting daily four to five times or more a day and I wake up daily with Herat burn. I went to se an GI Dr. He did an exam and said my sleeve is too tight. And I was dehydrated. He helped me with the hydration. My mouth feels like someone stuffed it with cotton it does not matter what I do I am super thirsty and cannot quench it. This morning I got up and ate a tad bit too much honey dew melon thinking it will quench my thirst and dry mouth. But it didn't. I feel sick. Help me please.

Sounds like a possible stricture. I would have your bariatric surgeon do an endoscopy.

Since your post was in March I really hope you are not having this issue any longer! I would love to hear what was done to resolve it and what the underlying issue was. The rest of what I am saying is more for other who come across this post, as I really truly hope you are able to keep down more food and Water by now.

If you are having those symptoms you should immediately call your surgeon and go in to have them diagnose and see what can be done to repair. Long term dehydration is extremely dangerous. Not being able to keep food down is not good, but not immediately life threatening. Remember, we can live weeks without food, but only days without water.

If you feel that your surgeon is not offering you the necessary care to keep you healthy then I would go to another surgeon for a 2nd opinion. Some thirst after surgery is normal, but throwing up 4-5 times a day is not. And you have no way to know how much water you are actually keeping down if you are throwing a lot of it up.

Know the signs of dehydration (there are a lot so rather than list them here, look them up online) and when to seek emergency care. If you get to the point of extreme dehydration go to the ER immediately.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
