Need help with a realistic goal!

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is Band-day for me :whoo:and I want to set some min-goals for myself. What would be a realistic goal for me to lose by Thanksgiving or Christmas? I won't have a fill until the first of 2008 so I can't consider that in the equation. Would 20 pounds be realistic? 30? Or is it just too hard to say? Thanks!!

Without knowing your starting weight/height its a bit hard to say. But 20 pounds by New Year should be a safe estimate (based on your 100 pound ticker) It could be more or depending on what restriction your band (without a fill gives) less.

Why not set an exercise goal instead? You can have two tickers on your sig, one for weight loss and one for exercise.

To set a weight goal during Bandster Hell might be setting you up for failure and that wouldn't be a great way to start your banding journey. You might lose or you might gain, you really don't know. This time frame isn't designed for weight loss but healing instead.

When I was newly banded, from memory I lost 9kg in the first six weeks which is a touch over 20lb. I'd say 20lb by Christmas is quite a realistic goal.

I stuck to my post op instructions rigorously and was lucky not to have to go through Bandster Hell. I didnt get hungry till about 12 weeks out. So cut yourself some slack if that does happen, but even under normal dieting conditions, you could lose 20lb between now and Christmas.

Get exercising as soon as you can. YOu have to wait to lift heavy weights or do anything VERY vigorous, but good hard walking should be possible for you within 2 weeks of surgery. Do it every day for 45 minutes and you'll get the results you want.

You are about the same as me, 100 pounds to lose. It's hard to say with no knowing your height... I know that my doctor said that the ultimate goal weight 'rule of thumb' is something like this: 5'0" is 100 #s, 5'1" is 105 #s, 5'2" is 110 pounds, etc... add 5 pounds for each inch after 5'0".

But you are asking a hard question, how much could you expect to lose in 6 weeks... hmmm...

Everybody is different. I lost 22 pounds the first 2 weeks. I'm at 30 pounds and it's just a little over a month. Some only lose 3-5 pounds the first month. I say the first 6 weeks you should focus on recovery and taking care of your band.

From what I hear, the regular weight loss comes after a good fill. But, what do I know?

Good luck and congratulations. Good job on trying to set goals too... That rocks!

I think 20-30 lbs is realistic unless you are an average loser then I would say best 20 lbs. I think it is realistic though, especially to Christmas. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
