If you could receive private or group counselling sessions/therapy from a professional counsellor of psychology (WHO HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY PROCESS AND JOURNEY), would you?

Honestly I wouldn't no. I'm not a big believer in paid therapy from others especially people you don't know, I do believe in working on ourselves and talking , but everyone I know that heads to these support groups can't seem to let anything go. ....but maybe for some they work (just my own opinion)

No I haven't done therapy but If I had to choose I would go with group just to have some feed back from people who could possibly be going through the same thing as I am not just someone counseling me on what to so and who hasn't done it

Maybe group just to hear the different ways surgery impacts people!

I am doing private therapy. I don't like to share with strangers. The therapist gave me some very valuable information that I don't think I could get anywhere else. She gave me an entirely different perspective about my "why", now she is teaching me some new skills.

The clinic I did my surgery at offers a support group of patients who meet once a quarter or so and share their experiences. The NUT also gives advice on a specific topic and the doc comes along also to talk to patients. It's really quite helpful to listen to other people's experiences and share what you've done successfully that might work for them. But if I felt that I was having difficulty adjusting my attitude to food then yes, I would go to a therapist but I wouldn't be influenced by whether they had had the surgery or not.

I happen to be a therapist. Group vs individual really depends on the goals you need help with. If you just need support through the process then group. If you need help in changing thoughts beliefs and behaviors then individual. It would be best if the therapist had training in Cognitive Behavioral tTherapy CBT. This is most effective in establishing long term behavior change.

Though it's great to get opinions and feedback it's just better to be honest with ourselves about what we need. Today was post op day number 6 for me and already I've already been through a roller coaster of emotions. I've have support at home but I still sought out the help of apps like this and instagram pages and YouTube accounts of people who've been here before me. Would I go to a group session, sure if I had the time just to see how I felt about it but in the end I know this is my journey and it's a battle for me and in some of those you have to just stand up for yourself and push forward.

I would definitely be willing to see a counselor in regard to weight loss surgery and lifestyle changes.
I see a psychologist for my depression and other issues that I have.
I also try to hit one AA meeting a week.
I like working with my psychologist one on one.
I like the group feeling of AA meetings.
To each their own, I always say.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
