I am required to use Optifast for 4 weeks as my pre-op diet. Just wondering if anyone is with me in this?

Hi, yes I'm on Optifast too. I find the shakes very very sweet, (seem to have lost my sweet tooth post op, long may it last) so my dietitian has said I can drink any Soup that is thin enough to go through a straw and it must have no lumps of pieces in it. It's made such a difference. I'm 5 days post op, gastric plication. How are you finding Optifast and how are you going generally?

I'm doing pretty good with it. I love the vanilla shake and the garden Tomato Soup. The rest is kind of hit or miss for me. I lost 7lbs in 3days with this and am curious to see how much I will lose with a full week. I am not weighing myself in between my weekly check-ups. I like to be surprised! 😃

That's a good healthy way to look at it, that way you're not obsessing about numbers but more thinking about the process and what you're doing. When is your op scheduled for?

I loved Optifast pre op but post op I found it too sweet. I loved the shakes, the Soups not as much to be honest

With my weekly meetings I have seen how much peoples taste buds vary. We were able to taste some of the various Protein Drinks my bariatric office has in their store and my friend and I had very different opinions. To each their own. Plus, a lot of people have said their taste buds change after surgery so who knows what I might end up liking.

I'm 1 year post op and still can't stand the taste of eggs. Yet I loved eggs pre op. Theres a few other things I've gone off too which isn't bad i.e. chocolate but I'm a bit shattered I'm off eggs

Yep! Can't stand the taste anymore. Shattered because I really did love eggs

I'm sorry. I'm wondering if I am going to become lactose intolerant. I love cheese...not so sure it loves me tho.

I have to be on Optifast for 21 days... I'm on day 11 now. After surgery I to drink liquid for another 10 days but it doesn't have to be Optifast.

I'm on day 10 of 31. Starting to get some cravings...

You are on liquids for only 10 days? I'm jealous. I'm going to be on liquids for at least 3 weeks and can only switch to pureed food if they "clear" me.

Your counting pre and post. Yes well I have liquids two weeks after as well. I try not to look at post because im not there yet and it's overwhelming. One day at a time. Remember after surgery you won't be able to eat or drink much.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
