I had surgery on 3/21 left hospital on 3/22; have been able to be up and around worked all the gas out have taken no pain medicine, tolerating my liquids cautiously, got on scales this afternoon and it shows I have actually gained 1.5 lbs; so BUMMED but my stomach is still pretty swollen..... Is this normal?

It is. You get pumped full of air and Fluid at the hospital. It takes time for all of that to exit your body. I recommend staying off of the scale for the first month. Your body is healing, and the weight loss isn't going to start immediately even if you are doing everything you are supposed to do.

Good luck!

I had my surgery on the 20th. The first thing the nurse told me was to avoid the scale for the next 2 weeks. During surgery they pump you full of air. Plus you probably had an IV giving you continuous fluids. She told me that it is not out of the norm to gain 5 lbs because of this. Your body is healing and you have to give it time to catch up.

What everyone else said. I had a prolonged hospital stay due to complications but once I was home I think I was up 10 lbs from my surgery day. It'll drop off quick enough. We're all excited to see the scale start moving but every individual will lose weight differently. Don't get caught up comparing yourself to everyone else. Focus on healing, getting in your Protein & Water, and moving as much as possible.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
