Need advice

Recommended Posts

I got my 1st fill a month ago. He put in a little over 1 cc in a 4 cc band. I have trouble eating. I can eat soft, mushy food fine. But if I eat solids, I get a golf ball feeling in the chest with pain after 4-5 bites. Don't even mention chicken. Everytime I eat chicken, after 2 or 3 bites I get pain and end up PBing. I feel I am too tight. I was talking with a friend who had gastric bypass and she said I was just right. I should just eat 4-5 bites 6 times and day and make sure I get enough Protein with shakes.

I thought this was a life style change and that is not the life style I want. I thought you would be able to eat 1/2 to 1 cup food total each time and you lose weight by controling volume consumed vs dieting. I have not lost weight in the last 2 weeks. Most of the mushy stuff is higher in calories and fat (potatos, noodles, ice cream ..;))

Please advise. do you think my band is too tight? Is my friend right? Are my expectations wrong? I just don't know what to do.

HI Sunny- I remember you from the lucky sevens. Sorry nto see you are having a hard time. I think that you are too tight, not a lot too tight, but you need to be able to eat some solid Protein foods. My doc says a half cup per sitting. It takes me 20-30 minutes to eat this. I know I am fell when I get the hiccups. It sounds like a visit to your doc is needed before you get too frustrated. Best of luck!

You are definitely too tight and need to call your doctor. Eating 5-6 bites at a time is plain silly for anyone to think that is normal and expect you to live your life that way. You should be able to eat at least 1/2 to a cup of food.

A word of caution, I know chicken is often a trouble food for me. If it is even slighly on the dry side, I can just not get it down.

It could also be a technique problem rather than texture. Your bites should be pea-sized and chewed to a paste. Rest between bites. A meal should take a lot longer than we usually expect.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
