Hi everyone! This month I had my first appointment with the bariatric center. I had an appointment with a nurse, psychologist and dietician. I got all those appointments done in one day. I have to wait 3 months for my insurance to pay for the surgery. Question is, what am I supposed to be doing right now? I see my surgeon for the first time at the end of this month and I was approved for surgery through the nurse and psychologist. I know I am supposed to start a food journal so I write down what I have been eating. Also, what should I be keeping track of right now? I know my dietician said I don't need to be detailed right now (counting Protein, ect). Thank you for your time!

Myfitnesspal is a great app for tracking food, carbs, protien and fats. That's how I track my food and liquids.< br>Do you drink caffiene? Smoke? Drink carbonated drinks? If so quit. You do not want to deal with withdrawals after surgery. Anything carbonated should be out of your diet for good.
Do you eat Breakfast? If not you've got to get in habit of doing that. This was an issue for me. I'm not a morning person. After my first meeting with bariatric team I started drinking a protien shake every morning for breakfast. Post op I make sure I eat something within the first hour after waking. I am past the protien shake stage. Start practicing having no fluids with meals. Eating and drinking together is something that we do unconsciously. It's a big change. The more comfortable you are with doing this pre-op the easier it will be post-op. Measure everything you put in your mouth and track it. Don't fudge on amounts. This will really help you and your nutritionist to figure out your eating patterns and trouble areas. Plus once you are used to measuring or weighing and tracking it becomes a habit. It gets less annoying. For me, I have had no issues with fluids or food so far (I'm 5 wks out). I could easily eat more than I should. I measure everything before eating. I use a very small plate or bowl. Trust me on this. If you use a standard plate and put your 1/4c or 2oz on it you will think. I'm starving. At least it's that way with me. It's all visual because once you eat it you will be full. But it looks so tiny on a big plate. Take tiny bites, put utensil down and chew well. Get 64oz of fluids daily.Gosh I could go on and on. But this is a good start pre-op. Read the forums. I noticed there hasn't been as many posts as there use to be. I started the forum last September. Go back and read archives. Ask lots of questions. Good luck on your journey. Oh and by the way I have no regrets.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
